Catchy weather and heavy yields have made opera tions very difficult. Many farm- ers are forced to leave the hay in order to cut wheat. The wheat crop is reported heavy in most sections with considerable dam- age done by lodging. Eastern and Northern Ontario still remain dry with the result that hay is not much over half the crop and pastures are brown, with a corresponding shrinkage fn milk flow. Rain is badly need- ed in these districts to assure a good yield in spring grain and hoed crops. Western Ontario PEEL--Second growth of Al- falfa is now 12 to 18 inches in height. A 25-acre field of Edgar Crozier, Streetsville, which was cut on June 8th, is now blossom- ing and is ready for the mower for the second crop. PERTH--The Hessian Fly in Fall Wheat has done consider able damage in some sections of the County. NORTH SIMCOE--A few far- mers report apple trees uprooted by the recent storm. Raspberries are becoming plentiful. All hoed | crops, especially potatoes looking well. DUFFERIN--The digging of early potatoes has commenced but will not be gemeral for a few days. The potato crop in general is not promising. Very little commercial fertilizer was used and few fields are seen with a good stand of top. BRUCE~--In the Southern part of Bruce haying operations have been delayed on account of wet weather, but In the Peninsula above Wiarton rain is badly needed. Cattle ar® thin in this section and are being shipped out because of shortage of grass. Southern Ontario ELGIN--Two carg of fat cattle were exported last week. ESSEX--Corn, tobacco and to matoes were refreshed by the re- cent rains. A large quantity of tomatoes were on the market last week. The late tomato crop gives promise of average yields. Threshing of fall wheat is in full swing. 40 acres of alsike seed were threshed on one farm dur- ing the week with a yield of two bushels' per acre. , LAMBTON--Recent rains have made a wonderful improvement in spring crops. Corn is growing rapidly. Weed cutting on road sides is being well taken care of. LINCOLN--Prices on St. Cath- arines market for fruit and veg- etables on July 23 were as fol- lows: Peaches 30 = 50c for sixes; Raspberries 12¢ quart; Black Currants 75¢ - $1 for six qt. bas- ket; Red Currants 6c pt.; toma- toes 75c-6 qts.; celery 60-76¢c dozen;sour cherries 50c-6 gts. The fire started in a wooded country across the pond from the camp and close to the Bullocks Town Road. Three boats carrying the bigger boys of the troop, armed with buckets, axes and shovels, were despatched in charge of Assistant Scoutmaster John O'Neill. The scouts found three fires, fanned by a strong wind, raging through the timberland. Torbay, to the eastward, was threatened with destruction, A stretch of dry wood stood between the fires and the village. Realizing the necessity of im- mediate action, O'Neill sent out two of his fleetest runners, one by the Bullocks Town Road and one by the Indian Meal Line, to warn the residents and ask for assistance, A band of volunteers, headed by police, rushed to the pond with a pumper but they were met by a troop of ragged and smoke- blackened scouts who announced they had the flames under con- trol. A movement is on foot to re- imburse the boys for their loss of uniforms and equipment. m-- -- mmm Reduce NEILSON'S Ice Cream Bricks Reg. 35c. Now Same weight and quality.
