The other St, games in the group were closely contested and did not result in any material change in standings. Simcoes took two and lost one game with ment, while the Firemen emerged from their long losing streak to | take one game in three from Tex- | tile. Group '"B" however \ greategt changes. St. Andrew's second last week took three points from the leading Signal- lers and took undisputed posses- sion of first place, with the Sig- nallers dropping into second posi- tion. A three point win by Mike's Place over Falcons raised them from fourth place to a tie for second place with the "Wig-Wag- gers'. The Times team which had not won a game previously took two games out of three from A.Y.M.C. and emerged from the cellar and are now tiled for that position with them, There are possibilities of changes in the standing next week as Falcons and Simcoes, first and second place holders at present will meet and as Falcons are only three points out in front, a tie is possible. Textiles and St. Andrew's will play and the "Saints" are - favoured to take their opponents but Textiles are only two points down and may turn the trick and make a big change in the standing. In the other gameg in group "A" Regi- ment will play their old rivals from the Fire Hall. The feature games in group '"B" should be those between Mike's Place and Signallers, who are now died for second place. H.A senior semi-fianls, Total goals on the round will decide the issue, and the return game w!ll be played at Port Colborne Friday night. Strong defensive hockey, punc- tuated by a few pretty offensive thrusts by both teams, featured the episode. It was a great bat- tle with little to choose between two fine teams which gave their best and presented no weak spots. "Dinty"' goal, was probably outstanding performer. On a track snow and covered with ice, but still not fast enough to suit them, Homburger whipped his sled through the vertical banks and hairpin turns on the two heats in a total time of 3 minutes 48.- 34 seconds, to beat the reckless Roumanian, Lieutenant Alexan- aer Papana, and his aviator mates for the title by just under three seconds. "Hack" Simpson to Go to McGill Montreal, Feb. 17, -- Haro™ "Hack' Simpson, reserve centre nipegs, Canada's Olympic hockey ple hockey champions, expects to enter McGill University next Fall, he told newspapermen here yes- terday. Leafs Blanked by Bruins 3-0 Boston, Feb. 17.--The Boston Bruins played their best brand of hockey last night to register their first victory of the season over the speedy Toronto Maple Leafs, who were shut out, 3 to 0. The Leafs, who sadly missed the injured Charlie Conacher, were unable to get going al- though King Clancy wore himself out trying to start scoring plays. The first period was cautious- ly played, neither side being will- ing to gamble and it ended with- out a score. In the second, Frank Jerwa was bumped at the Leafs' blue line but he managed to slide the puck over and Dit Clapper nailed it. The latter passed to Barry and Marty aimed a hard shot that struck Goaler Chabot's skate and bounded back into his net for the opening tally. Art Chapman intercepted Harry Day's passout in the third period, pivoted in quickly and drove a 16-footer into the Toronto net. The final score was 3-0. It is thought probable that on the team's return from New York, they will play games in Hamilton, Toronto and Fort Wil- liam, although nothing has been definitely announced. Detroit's Lone Goal Beats Stars Detroit, Feb. 17.---Detroit kept its place well up in the Interna- tional Hockey League here last night by beating the Syracuse Stars 1 to 0. The draw cost the Faleong thelr exclusive hold on third place in the Am- erican division, putting the minto a tie with the victorious Boston Bruins, Maroons Move to Third Place Montreal, Feb. 17.-- The Mont- Maroons climbed out of the cellar position of the Canadian section of the Natonal Hockye League standing by trouncing the New. York Americans 7 to 1 here last night. It was a dull game up to the last period, when the Americans threw caution to the winds after scoring once and the Maroons caught them flat-footed with most of their men at the wrong end of the rink, 'North Toronto | Win Their Group be drawn Toronto. Feb. 17.--North To- ronto finished a most gruelling play-off round by defeating To- ronto Lions last night, 4 to 8, In 30 minutes of overtime, they took the championship of the Big Four 0O.H.A. junior group by 11 to 10 in the series that resolved itself into a three-game affair. That little edge in stamina that brought them from behind in the first two overtime periods to prolong the issue, outlasted the condition of the lagging Ljons, and sent these North Enders to a group honor in their first year in O.H.A, competition, The Chinese army couldn't ac- cept that $125,000 offer of Shanghai merchants to do its fighting 20 miles away from the city. Not even to see a good fight will the Chinese travel 20 miles. It was by an uncomfortably slim margin that Canada won again the Olympic hockey chams plonship. ' The Winnipegs are a low scoring team, but the fact that these Allan Cup champions were so closely held by an Am- erican team indicates that Can- ada can no longer remain confi- dent of supremacy in hockey.
