ARRESTED MAN CARRIED GUN Joseph Marshall, Brock- ville, Taken Of Passenger Train Belleville, Jan. 27.--~Recelving information from Cobourg, to the affect there was a dangerous character aboard C.N.R. train No. 18 yesterday, C.N.R. Constable Probert met the incoming train at Belleville and apprehended the young man. After searching the train thoroughly Constable Probert arrested a man, giving the name af Joseph Marshall of Brockyille, in the vestibule of a Pullman. Upon searching him the officer found a loaded revolver on his person and immediately placed him under arrest taking him to the police station where a charge was laid against Marshall, When arraigned before Magis- trate Mikel of Belleville the charge of unlawfully, not having 8 permit, having upon his per- son, other than his dwelling ol | placé, a revolver, contrary to the Criminal Code, he was not asked to plead as the court asked for franchises and the | an enlargement of tha case for one weok and Marshall was held without bail. When the train pulled into the C.N.R. station at Cobourg, Con stable Jerome arrested Marshall's two companions on a charge of trespassing on railroad property. Marshall evaded the officer at the Tohourg station but was ap prehended after Officer Jerome telegrapheq ahead and informed the Belleville constables. Rupert was a very slow boy snd had been discharged from three situations in two weeks; but he had found employment ynder a naturalist. it took him two hours to give the canaries their seed, three to stick a pin through a dead butterfly, and four. to pick a convolvulus. The only good point about him was that he was willing. "And what," he asked, having spent a whole pfternoon changing the gold- fishies' water, "shall I do now, gir?" RAIL OFFICIALS ORDERED TRIED "WITH WORKERS Prosecutor Asks Severe Penalties For Crew Of Wrecked Soviet Train Moscow, U.8.8.R., Jan. 27.--R. P, Kantanysn, chief prosecutor at the trial of 11 railroad work- ers charged with pegligence in connection with a disastrous wreck near Moscow, January 2, caused a stir in the crowdad courtroom by ordering the ar- rest of three officials of the road and includjnng them in the trial on the same charge. The prosecutor's announcement was made befére he finally sum- med up the evidence against the defendants. Tn an address which took more than three hours to deliver, he asked a maximum term .of 10 years' imprisonment for nine do- fendants, probationary prison terms for three and dismissal of the charge against two. He stressed the necessity for better discipline and more ef- fiefency in such Important indus- tries as transportation and charged that most of the defend- ants were guilly of the grosses! negligence in connection with the three-cornered wreck in which 68 were killed and more than 100 injured. v Preceding him, the assistant prosecutor called attention to the faet that 12,573 "aceidents and incidents" had occurred on the Kazan line during 1931, of which 5,875 were classified as serious ang 3,553 as due solely to the 'ecarelessness of employes.
