Morgan, of Tivoli, Eng UNUSUAL EXHIBIT FROM COAL MINE Glace Bay, N.B.--No. 5 Colliery ------------ at Reserve Mines provided one of the most interesting coal exhibits on display at the National Museum of Canada, Ottawa, It is a perfect column of coal ten feet in hejght and eight inches in thickness, rep- resenting a complete unbroken section across a thick coal seam including six-inch layers of the shale roof and sandy shale floor, Encased in plate glass and mahog- any, it has two sides visible, oue which is polished and the other in the rough state in which it was extracted from the mine, This exhibit is unique among museum coal exhibits of North America because of {ts perfect condition and of the unusual thickness of the seam, The only comparable exhibit is the pillar of coal shown at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893 and now housed in the Fieid Museum of that city. NEW RECORD MADE BY WOMAN HUNTER Fredericton, N.B.--A new rec- ord for a lady big game hunter was established in New Bruns- wick recently by Mrs. Walter R. Peterson, of Nashua, N.H. Shoot- ing in the Serpentine section of the Tobique district of this prov- ince, Mrs. Peterson killed a moose, two buck deer and one bear. The feat is most noteworthy and her slifll as a successful huntress is without parallel in this part of Canada. Accompanying Mrs. Peterson this trip was her husband, who also killed a fine specimen of bull moose, He is a well-known hunt. er, and has a fine camp on Riley Brook, N.B., with a splendid col- lection of trophieg from the New Brunswick, woods, as well as from other parts of Canada.
