These two would stand up well on any junior O.H.A. team and when they got their. man, well, they got him. After one particularly brilliant rally by a Toronto wing, Barnes swept through the front line trenches of his opponents to he met by the defence who attampted to sandwich him. They did, but both went to the ice while Barnes sailed on to be robbed of a goal by Mat- hers, in goal for Toronto. The first period remained score- less with Oshawa consistently hold- ing the best of the play. In the sec- ond period with the adequate for- ward line of Hercia Singer and Clarke of South Simcoe School, pushing the play, Hercia, on an as- sist from Clark, completely fooled Mathers to count Oshawa's first point. Later in the game period Goodchild shot from the corner and the puck shot into the corner of the net off Mathers pads. However this was disallowed as the goal judge Toronto started to mix things up a bit and a number of penalties were handed out by Billy Bell, Mike Singer, the fiery young defence man for Oshawa, almost lost his temper but the referee banished him until he cooled down a bit. In the third period Toronto be- came desperate and played four 'men up, whenever they got past their own blue line, which wasn't often, for the Oshawa players con- tinued to check just as hard as ever. After a grand checking feat Tubby Walker, of Centre St., fool- ed Mathers again and dropped one in the corner. Toronto swept down the ice repeatedly while Singer was off again but Stark saved the day for Oshawa. If the Juniors desire a real goal tender next year Stark is their man. For Toronto Hinchcliffe, Willis and Atkins were the best while Goodchild, Hercia and Barnes play- ed most consistently for Oshawa. Billy Bell, of Toronto, proved a very capable referee. Principal Nichol: son, C. F. Slater and a number of others accompanied the team. The return game will likely be played at the Arena Gardens next Saturday. Guelph at present are at the top of the heap with six points, but that does not mean a thing to the Pats. who are going to the Royal City with the idea of winning three more points, The game will be played in either Galt or Kitchener, as there is no artificial ice rink in Guelph, and the natural variety of ice has been chased away by the mild spell of the last few days. » = » * Here on Wednesday The Maple Leafs will be back Ticre on Wednesday night of this weel, and if the Pats. can win tonight they ought to turn the trick again on home ice. The Poseidon and the Perseus, two units of 'the new flotilla, are expected in Hong Kong this month. Their sister vessels, the Pandora and the Proteus, are undergoing repairs after a collision in Gibraltar Bay and will arrive later. For years the daring pirates of the Bias Bay region have had their own way with merchant vessels. Often hoarding them Tn onen sea, they %iead them toward the Bay, where the plunder is taken off to the mountain homes of the pirates. Wealthy pas- sengers are often held for ransom. Most of the marauders are former soldiers and fishermen lured by the prospect of easy wealth. In one in- stance the ruffians were headed by a well-dressed and bobbed-haired young woman who brandished a gun in each hand as her comrades ransacked a Japanese steamer, Generally the pirates board the vessel as passengers and reveal themselves only after the ship has passed into open sea. They usually carry out their plans without much interference unless there are armed guards on board, Constant patrol along the Bias Bay coast is maintained by destroyer squadrons and submarines, but the latter havé been found more effec- tive. A number of attempted pirate raids have been terminated abruptly by the appearance of undersea boats, but with only two submarines it was not possible for the China fleet to maintain year round duty. The Canton government is report- ed to contemplate joining the anti- pirate warfare. LIBRARY GREW QUICKLY Aberystwyth, Wales, March 23.-- The collection in the National Lib- rary of Wales, opened 22 years ago without a single book, today num- bers 550,000 items, many of them priceless manuscripts. The late Sir John Williams, a physician, trans. ferred his collection of Welsh books and manuscripts to the library on the opening day. the knowledge that the result made no difference to them and with the intention of keeping away from injuties, and this combination caused them tq look about the poorest they have on local ice this season. The defente was like a sieve, and the Senators, imbued with the desire to defeat the possible champions tore in on the goal, and how Chabot turned aside some of the attacks will always remain a mystery. !
