James Lyons, M.L.A., for Sault Ste Marie, in an effort to gettle the difficulty arising out of the brokers alleged fail:re lo de liver to the groun headed by Lyons, | 221 unite certificates of Nicke Hil, which they did not have and apparently cannot secure, Yesterday was the last day of grace allowed by the Lyons' forces | the | for the brokers to produce certificates, but it is understood that Mr. Lyon and his associames will eonfer with their solicitor, D I. McCarthy, K.C,, regarding the course of act'on to he taken. Later McCarthy will confer with the brokers revresentatives in an effort | to arrange some sort of an agree- | ment. If the hrokers fail to meet the terms get forth by couneel for the Lyon interests, writs will be 1ssu- ed, it is understood, against them and involving a sum of money ap- proximating $2,000,000. The battle for control. of outstanding stock units of Nickel Hill syndicate, ing property near Sudbury, has been raging for the last months, During this time the units have had a spectacular movement in price, About four months ago they were available at $30 a share, The syndicate has a capitalizatfon of 100,000 units, Out of this ap- proximately 1,500 units have been fssued from the treasury, one op- tion being taken at $30, and an- other at $50 a share. Bacon proposes that the annual immigration from Mex- fco be limited to 2,500, and im- migration from other countries of the western hemisphere be limit- ed upon the quota provisions of the immigration act of 1924. Under this plan Canadian immigrants would be admitted to the United States on the basis of a percentage of Canadian residents in 1790. Congress has now in hand three projects for restricting immigra- tion from the western hemisphere Chairman Albert Johnson of the house immigration committee, said yesterday the committee would work upon his own bill and that of John C. Box of Texas, as drafts for a committee measure to be pre- sented to the house. The commit- tee held a hearing yesterday and learned from W. W. Husband, as- sistant secretary of labor, that, Johnson's bill would apportion im- migration as follows: Canada and Newfoundland, 50,667; Mexico. 2,- 175: Central and South. America, 1,548; West Indies, 1,817, The Box bill on the estimate of its author would permit entrance of 42.000 Canadians annvally, and would divide the remaipder of the 50,000 limit among the - other | countries of the hemisphere.
