WHEN A CHANGE IS BETTER THAN A REST It is a trite saying, that a change is as good as a rest. What could furnish a more complete change to jhe average city dweller than a two days' cruise over Lake Huron's blue waters and the mighty expanse of Lake Superior. A cruise that touches delightful ports within edsy access to popular summer re- sorts, and abounds in historical as well as modern interests; from the old fur trading bloek house built in 1797, at Sault Ste. Marie, «Sept. . Sept, 24 and . Sept. 19 and ct. 9 and to. the hugeg rain elevators at Port. Arthur and Fort William. The seemingly limitless expanse of sunlit waters--the glorious sun- set--the summer moon shedding a sheen of silver garnished hy the '| myriad of stars that appear in the clear atmosphere --- surely the change to such beauty must be bet- ter than a rest. You will enjoy the spacious decks, airy cabins, luxurioug lounges and unobstrusive, efficient service of the Canadian Pacific Great Lakes Steamers. Any Canadian Pacific Agent wil] be glad 'to furnish you with, com- plete information and booklet con- cérning the Great Lakes Cruise. i| Thief Robs Register and Steals Car St. John's, Que., July 12,'-- A young man entered a local garage and automobile salesroom late last night, bound and gagged the 18- year-old boy who was temporarily in charge, emptied the cash regis- ter and drove away in one of the new cars in the show room. Po- lice in all surrounding towns were given the license number and dés- cription of the car. It. was not known how much money was in the cash register, 2) Special summer service We announce a special Summer call for and de- livery service to cottages as follows: West: Oakville and termediate points, Northwest: Brampton and intermediate points.' All of the political parties are more or less committed to it. Hon. J: A, Robb's recefit intima-~ tions onthe subject showed the Do- minion: Government to be. moving in re-action from that brief and sit seqhiently undevel- oped pronouncement has been large, It is understood that, in a publié speech. recently, one of the Cabinet was keen to announce the calling of, or proposal for, sich a gathering, but it was considered a bit premature, having regard 'to the particular stage of the negotiations. Speaking in the House at the open- ing of the session, Hon. R. B, Ben- nett put forward the idea of an econ- omic conference and, in his campaign speeches since the session that view has been reiterated. About: a 'year ago, E. G. Garland, U.F.R. member for Bow River, came out in favor of such a conference as helpful in the solution of economic problems and the development of Im- perial trade. From all this it may be deduced that, when Mr. Snowden in- vites' the Dominions to a parley on the question, the Canadian Govern- ment will acquiesce and do so with oval of the other parties. Whilé there will be an identity of yiew favorable to the principle of the 51 canterence, the similarity is likely to 81 end just at "that point. Upon details, differences are already apparent, here as in the Old Country. Proposals will CHARLES CROSSKILL Brother of Mrs. 8. It is thought that agreement in such a matter would be a laborious enterprise but a confer- ence will be essential to a decision of whether it is attainable or not. Stimulus to the movement is given by the probable United States tariff and its effects on Canada. If what is proposed is given cffect to, sub- stantial markets will have to 'be de- veloped and, first among them will be Empire markets. To what extent these are available and on what con- ditions. it will be for an economic [FACES COURT "YEARS AFTER Colored Girl Ch Charged With Theft Nine Years Ago Toronto, July 12.-- 'After being at liberty nine years, Louisa Smith, a 'colored girl, "appeared before Judge Widdifield vesterday morning on thiages of theft committed in June, Major Eric Armour, K. C., prosec- cited, and W. B. Horkins defended. Major Armour informed the Court that in 1920 accused was committed for -trial, 'but failed to appear. ench warrant was issued for her ar- rest and her 'bail was estreated. She was finally arrested on June 24, 1920, Accused, said counsel, had been guilty of the highest contempt against the court. The complainants, said Major Armour, could not be located. Mr. Horkins said he thought they should proceed on the charges as on the charge sheet. Judge Widdifield--"Tt has always been the case that contempt of court should be dealt with first." . T. Evans read! the court record, dealing with accused, which showed that on June 1st, 1920. accused ap- peared in the Police Court on charges of theft and, pleading not guilty, clec- ted trial by judge without a jury. in Trial was fixed for June 2nd, and she N was released on bail, herself and one surety of $200 each. On the appli- cation of accused's lawyer, trial was conferenceto say after the matter is gone into. The examination will be lengthy. Meanwhile, it is safe to as- sert, that when Mr. Snowden's invi- tation comes, it will be accepted and the idea be endorsed in principle whatever the prospective difference over details, ool a FLAVOR -- N eilson's' Ice Crea All the luscious vors of sweet crushed frujts, skillfully blended with ric Sram ad, fine cane sugar give you Neilson's Publ Ie as wholesome and healthful as. it tastes, Oorder from w" for tonite's dinner.
