(73-78-84-90) NEW GAS TAX MEANS HIGHER REVENUES Increase for Month of April Expected to be About $225,000 County of (By Canadian Press Leased Wire) Toronto, April 17.--Approxi- mately $225,000 is expected in ad- ditional revenue from the increase in the gasoline tax from three to five cents during the month of April, the first full month for the increase to be in effect. The total yield from the gas levy for the month, it is believed, will amount to approximately $550,000. Defin- ite figures will not be available until the end of May it was an- nounced. Each cent of the tax is worth between $1,250,000 and $1,600,- 000 to the Department of High- ways annually, according to calcul= ations based on figures of previous years. The tax of five cents a gal- lon, therefore, will yield about $7,000,000 annually, a boost of approximately $3,000,000 over the former levy. King Alfred has been given a bad reputation for allowing his landlady's cakes to burn, but that is nothing to what a woman can do with an electric iron or a gas stove. TWO--1027 --Hamilton Herald.
