H, Anderson recently re- ceived by registered mail a handsome medal from Woodslee Lodge 1.O.O.F., in recognition of his twenty-five years of membership in the lodge. A number from here attended the play "Go Slow Mary", which was given at Ashburn on Friday night, The Community Club held an oys- ter supper in the hall on Thursday night when about eighty enjoyed the generous servings of oysters - that were tastily prepared by Mrs, John Birkett. The proceeds amounted to thirty-eight dollars. ORONO COUPLE'S SILVER WEDDING Forty Friends Gather to Celebrate the An. niversary Orono, March 27. -- Messrs Well- ington Blewett and W. J. Walter re- turned Tuesday after a month's visit to Seaforth and other western towns. Mr. W. M. Winters, of Oshawa, visited at Mr. John Morris', Mr. T. Smith attended a conference of the agency staff of the Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada, at Peter- boro, recently, % Mr. and Sirs. J. J. Gilfillan and family, Mr, James and Miss Viola Gilfillan, of Toronto, attended the fuperal of her step-mother, Mrs. P. A. Johnston, of Bowmanville. Mr. W. S. Haw has moved to the R. R. Waddell apartment vacated by Mr. C. R. Carveth, : Misses Hilda Gamsby, also Miss Rosaline Gamsby spent the past week in Toronto. ' Mrs. P. A. Bragg, of Darlington, 1s visiting Mrs. S. Halliday. Mr. O. M. Wright, Bethany, Do- minion Life Agent, was in town last week. Mr. and Mrs: Frank Cooper, 6th Line, with their son, Mr. Percy Coop- er, spent the week end at their daughter's, Mrs. Brook's, Picton. 'Mr. and Mrs. Madison Hall cele- brated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding on Saturday last at their home, Mill St., when about for- ty friends and neighbors were invited in for the evening. Their daughter, Miss Catherine, and lady friends from Toronto, were also present. After an excellent supper the remainder of the evening was spent in games and chat. The service at the Park Street United Church was taken by the men of the congregation last Sunday. The choir loft was filled to capacity at the evening service. Mr, M. H. Sta- ples sang the "Golden City" and the choir as a voluntary, the "Recession- al." Pastor Rev. William Sterling ac- cupied the pulpit in the morning. M.. H. B. Cowan, of Peterboro, editor of Farm and Dairy, who took as his subject, "The Wonders of God's World," gave a very fine address. On Monday the men gave a ban- quet in the armories. About four hundred were seated at nicely decor- ated tables and a' fine hot supper was served. An excellent program fol- lowed at which Ex-Mayor Tom Hol- gate presided. Mr, A. E. Hircock, of Bowmanville, the vocalist of the evening, rendered several fine num- bers. Captain F. C. Palmer, of Bow- manville, delivered a fine address on the "Union Jack.", illustrated by flags of different periods in the life of the empire. The Tamblyn orches- tra enlivened the evening with sev- eral fine selections. Community sing- ing was led by Mr. Mi: H. Staples. Mrs. R. H. Brown at the piano. Rev. William Sterling hanged all who had taken part in making this banquet such a grand success, The total pro- ceeds of the banquet being $220. Mr, and Mrs, E. S, Keats, having returned from their trip to Winnipeg, were invited to Mr, W. Treasure's for dinner, where .to "their surprise, were greeted by a large number of friends, it being the thirty-fifth anni- versary of their wedding day. The party sat down to a beautiful dinner, the tables being decorated with ferns and flowers. White bells and ribbons were hung in arch fashion over the bride and groom. After a bountiful meal Mr. Treasure called' the friends to order and proposed a toast to the bride and groom, wishing them con- tinued. health and happiness. Mr. Keats thanked the friends on behalf of himself and wife for the beauti- ful presents and good wishes, Mr, Keats was a former Orono boy and their many friends join in extending hearty congratulations. KEDRON W.A. HOLDS SOCIAL EVENING Fine Affair Takes Place at the Home of Mrs. Harold Mountjoy Kedron, Mar, 25.--The Women's Association held a social evening in aid of the flower fund, at the home of Mrs. Harold Mountjoy, last Tuesday evening, and considering the condition of the roads, there was a very good crowd. A very enjoyable evening was spent play- ing progressive games, Miss Kathleen Conlin and Master James Love, of Oshawa, spent the week-end at the home of Mr, and Mrs. 8. Conlin. Mrs. William Hepburn visited friends In Brooklin recently. Mr. H. F, Werry, Mr, R. J. Luke, Mr. William Hepburn, Mr. W." N. Hoskin, Mr. George Scott and Mr. R.oss Lee were among those from this district who attended the Ro- tary Club banquet ,which was held in Brooklin last Wednesday night.
