Realized Goodly Sum, That the recent lecture given by Mr. Arthur Delroy under the aus- pices of the Oshawa Lions' Club in Simcoe Street Methodist Church, was a success financially, is shown by the fact that after paying ex- penses, $169 was turned over to the Children's Shelter to be used by the matron in her work among the chil- dren. The members of the Lions' Club are deserving of much credit for their interest in a cause of this nature as the Children's Aid Society in this county, under Inspector EIl- liott, is doing extensive work in finding homes for children and tak- ing care of those who have not pro- per environment or have no homes. Preparatory Service Held, Preparatory service previous to the administration of the sacrament of the Lerd's Supper, to be held in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow, was held in the lecture room of the church last night. Twenty-two were admitted to membership, seven of these joining by profession of faith. The address to the new members was given by the pas- tor of the church, Rev. George Yule, who based his remarks on He- brews--6---9; "But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak," speaking on "The Things that Accompany Salva- tion." With the addition of these new members the active membershiy of the local Presbyterian Church is over five hundred. An urgent cable to New York| reached Mr. MacDermott. just in| time to allow of his hastily boarding | the first steamer out. The picture, wifich was adapted | from the famous novel, "Spanish Jade," by Maurice Hewlett, is the dramatic story of a young girl's grim struggle for happiness. David Powell is the featured player. The following list contains some of the feaures which Manager Pome- roy of the Regent has booked for early showings: "Beyond the Rocks," | "Green Temptation", "A Fool's Par- adise," "My Boy," "A Bachelor Dad- dy, "The Ordeal', The Lying Truth", and "My Old Kentucky Home." In this list are contained some very fine features and Oshawa's theatregoers have some real treats in store for them. AT THE NEW MARTIN The following list is a few gques- tions which Erie Von Stroheim, star- ring in "Foolish Wives" at the New Martin on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday suggest that unhappy husbands might propose to their wives some dull evening. Or perhaps it would be just as well not to do so. Erich von Stroheim, director of the million dollar photoplay, "Fool ish Wives," wants to know if you are a foolish wife If you can answer these questions in the affirmative, you are. When the accident occurred Mr. Butler was operating a drop ham- mer in the press department and {while feeding the press, in some way his hand, got caught between the dies. Fortunately Mr. Butler was able to release the hand himself and none of his fellow employees knew of the accident until discovered by Mr. J. Reid, who happened to be passing the machine. Mr. Butler was rushed to the hospital immediately where it was found necessary to amputate the three fingers.
