One does not have to go to Paris for a party of this type, In fact, one will not have to go to New York now that the Artists' revel is so faithinny depicted in "The Night 1r The galaxy of feminine pulchritude appearing as dancers include the pick of Hollywood screen players and the Los Angeles stage. Among them was the entire personnel of the chorus of "Tell Me Again," a Los Angeles mu- sical comedy. The girls all appear in costumes similar to those noted at the Artists' Ball, that is, not much, but what there is, very elaborate and gaudy, in keep- ing with the tenor of this jazz age. Jong with Corliss Palmer plaving the role of a so called Love Bandit, puts on one of the funniest dancing acts ever screened, . Thousands of toy balloons, miles of paper streamers and hundreds of pounds of confetti were consumed during the week spent filming this sequence, A large orchestra and tal- ented entertainers completed the at- mosphere, The Water Hole Something for everyone to enjoy, Zane Grey's story of "The Water Hole" as pictured by Paramount, will be shown for the first time in this city at the Regent theatre Monday, For those who like Western pic- tures, "The Water Hole" has some beautiful and exciting desert scenes with much riding and tense situations, For those who prefer society drama, "The Water Hole" has an absorbing plot centering around a pampered society belle and scenes of magnifi- cent entertainment in the homes and lives of the wealthy, 4 ; Jack Holt, as a young engineer in love "sith the philandering Nancy Carroll, proves himself a versatile and accomplished actor, In formal dress clothes or in rough riding outfit, Holt is equally at home. His tech- nique is unassailable and his charac- terization, convincing. ; The scenic photography is beauti- ful and sequences done in technicolor are impressive, Long vistas of desert land; huge mountain ranges rising abruptly from the trackless sand and detail scenes of the historic ruins of the Indian cliff dwellers make this picture a permanent screen gem and good entertainment, THE NIGHT BIRD AT NEW MARTIN, "A G0OD PICTURE Comedy Has Everything for Laughter, Rolled Into One Riotous Film Many of the most entertaining features that can occpr in 3 mo- tion picture are jammed with gusto into the new Reginald Denny ve- hicle, "The Night Bird" which opens at the New Martin theatre Monday, This comedy has everything that makes for laughter and all the in- gredients of the entertainment pie, The photoplay is a gomedy-drama or a romantic-comedy or a thrill-comedy and it is all rolled into one riotous picture. J There is a love theme running through the story--a theme of trans- cendent beauty all the more unusual, for "The Night Bird" is aimed for laughs and not only brings them down but touches the heart strings as well. The prize fighting in the' pieture is the best ever seen on the local screen, There is more whirl- wind action in this than in a ty- phoon. Very Costly irs Universal must have spent a lot of money making this production for it is featured by sets of extreme elegance, huge crowds of expensive- ly dressed people, great crowds at 3 fights and other scenes of fine production value, The Artists' Ball sequence alone must have cost more than the ordinary picture for here, seems to be concentrated all the feminine beauty and artistic endea- vor of modernists into one glor- ious, glittering wild party, Denny's Denny's acting ability is respon- |, the great majority of the!' sible for majority laughs. « His expressions in times of stress are ludicrous; he does one of those excruciating dances aided by Corliss Palmer; and the prize fight scenes where he must end the fight uickly to get away to save his isk from the cruel villian present 2 new idea in motion picture comedy.
