GUELPH TREASURE ABOUT TOBE SLD Former Duke of Bronawidk Willing to Dispose of Relics for Ten Millions Hanover, Cermany, Oet. 11,-- Because Ernst August, former Duke of Brunswick and husband of the former Kaiser's only daughter, Vie- torla Louise, is hard-pressed finan- cially, Germany may soon lose a valuable collection of art relics to America. The collection, known as the Guelph treasure, is of early hand wrought jewels and furniture including a cupboard and other re- lies brought by Henry The Lion from the Holy Land in 1173 when he made a pilgrimage there. Bezin- ning in 1896, it was exhibited for many years at the V Museum for Art and Industry, Later it was returned to the Duke of Brunswick who quietly shipped the treasure to Switzerland to avoid the possibility that the Federal Art Commissioner might attempt to prevent its sale. Ernst August is now reported to have commissiofied an art dealer to sell the collection to America for $10,000,000 on the condition that it be disposed of intact, $275,000 DIAMOND THEFT IN NEW YORK Four Armed and Masked Robbers Make Daring Robbery New York, Oct, 11.--Four young robbers, armed and masked, yester- day held up the offices of the A. S. supreme court Monday denied the Government a review of lower court decisions which held that Ca- nadian citizens with employment across tha border may eross daily into the United States without an immigration visa. Mary Cook a nati e of Scotland and Antonio Danelon, Italian, both now British subjects, won decisions in the second circuit court of ap- peals which decided they were "non-immigrants™ entering the Un- ited States temporarily for busi- ness. The court also decided that under the 1794 Jay treaty they Commuters From Canada to. U.S. Win Right to Enter Without Visa could cross the line at will. Both Cook and Danelon live in Niagara Falls, Ont., and cross daily to Niag- ara Falls and Buffalo N. Y, The Government from 1924 when the immigration quota law was passed until 1927 allowed such "commuters" to cross the border daily at Buffalo, Detroit and other points. A 1927 order required nat- ive-born Canadians to obtain iden- tification cards, and foreign-born Canadians to be placed within the immigration quota. The Govern- ment regarded this as an import- ant test case.
