The Bishops' action, even if, as they claim, it is merely intended to cover an emergency period, has un- doubtedly resulted in an atmos phere of resentment among Evang- elicals, and will inevitably exacer- bate the relations between the ra!- ing bodies of the Church and Par- liament. ITALIAN AVIATORS * HILLED IN FRANCE Three Airmen: Lose Lives When Plane Plunges Into Rhone Tournon, France, Oct. 4.--The muddy waters of the Rhone still held Sunday night the bodies of three Italian aviators who were drowned when their seaplane Marina II crash- ed late Saturday while en route to Italy. Commandant Pierre Penzo, Lieu- tenant Crocio, and Flying Officer Del Legatta were drowned and Mechan- ics Cidigloto and Parrochili were se- riously injured. The fliers were re turning after a fruitless search in the Arctic for Roald Amundsen and possible survivors of the polar diris gible Italia's crash. Scores of small boats crept along near the banks of the river, picking up shattered and twisted bits of metal and wood from the seaplane, but found nothing af the three men who went down in the wreckage of the Marina 11. Desecration of the tombs by for- mer Chihli-Shantung troops has dazed the Manchus and Chinese alike. Btcause of the general prac- tice of ancestor worship in China, the act is considered even more reprehensible by the Chinese than it would be in the West. : Sacrificial vessels of carved jade masive vases and incene burners of gold and silver and figures carved in rare metals and stones are among the plunder of the vandals. It is reported that band of about 2,000 soldiers led by a subordinate general raided the tombs. The thieves will have great difficulty in disposing of their loot on account of the size of the objects and their immense value. Most of the trea- sures will probably be broken up so that the jade, gold and silver and precious stones may be recovered and sold in bulk. . Manchu treasures of great value have been disappearing almost con- stantly from the palaces and mus- eums in Peking for the past seven- teen years. The former servants of the Empress-Dowager and Boy Emperor are known to have taken many of these. Chinese curio deal ers here insist that a large theft occurred in 1924 when Marshal Feng 'Yu-hgiang occupied Peking. At that timel they say, an entire caravan of treasures was taken into the Northwest. If this story is true, the objects taken are still conceal- ed somewhere as they have never appeared on the market in China or abroad, -------- JUDGE AND FATHER HUST STAND TRIAL Emanuel Eller of Chicago to Answer to Charge of Conspiracy Chicago, Ill, Oct. 4.--The law that Emanuel Eller pas served as a judge of the superior court will de- mand this fall that he answer a charge of conspiracy to commit murder and to violate election laws, Judge Eller and his father, Mor- ris Eller, city collector, and best known as 'boss'? of the 'bloody dwentieth" ward, facing the same accusations, are docketed for trial this month, His trial will be the first of a judge still on the bench, Eller refused. to resign. The indietment of the Ellers is one of the outgrowths of a grand jury Investigation of election frauds and violences that three groups of jurrors conducted, Law enforce- ment agencies joined with the state in the attempt to expose what was called sinister ballot control in sey- eral city wards, A special prosecu- tor was named because of the state's attorney's connection with the political faction to which the Ellers belong. Emanuel and Morris Eller were the particular targets of the crusa- ders, Kidnappings and intimida- tions in the twentieth ward where Morris ruled as republican precinct committeeman were detailed by grand jury witnesses and witness- e8 before a coroner's jury invest- gating the murder of Eller's prim- ary opponent last April, Octavius Granady, a negro, who had contested with Eller for the committeeman's post, was shot and killed on election day by motor car funmen who crowded Granady's car to the eurb, The tragedy occur- ed outside the twentieth ward, but the state contended Eller hench- men were responsible for ft, Judge Eller, witnessey said, was active in support of his father on election day, and held court in 8 street to free election workers zc- cused of intimidating voters and stuffing ballot boxes, DUKE OF YORK MAY TRAVEL T0 CANADA To Be Accompanied Here By Duchess, Ottawa Hears | Ottawa, Oct. 4.--A royal tour of Canada by their Royal Highuesses, the Duke and Duchess will be strong possibility for next summer. While his brothers, the Prince of Wales, and Price George, have both visited Canada on three occas- icng, the Duke of York has not. He jis the one male member of His Majesty's family who is mar- ried. From advices received, the Duke has often expressed a desire ot visit Canada, and the Canadian High Commissioner, Hon. P. C. Larkin, is stated to be prominent in urging him. to do so. It is understood that when Premier King goes to Londo, this week or next, the invitation to the Duke. and Duchess will be pressed alopg with assurances of the most loyal welcome to Canada. SAYS FUTURE OF CANADA ASSURED Former American Diplomat Sees Prosperity For Next 20 Years "England has great confidence in the future of Canada, and is growing more and more to regard the Dominion as a bome for those of her people who are unable to find employment in the Old Coua- try," according to J. J. Kerrigan, formerly assistant to the American Ambassador to Russia and a meni ber of the New York Cotton Ex- change, who passed through Mon- treal on Saturday en route to New York. He arrived in Quebec earlier in the day on the Empress of Aus- tralia, "I spent two months in Canada before going across to England and France, and, from what I saw, I should judge that. this country has at least 20 years of prosperity ahead of it. With dcres of untilled land and with undeveloped natural resources, the extent of which is not yet known, the future of Can- ada is assured. It seems ta me, how- ever, that there are many small in- dustries in Canada which could be stimulated by a protective tariff, and the resulting expansion of these industries would help to ab- sorb a part of Great Britaln's un- employed industrial population." You are embarrassed, however because you cannot tell whether you are mak- ing a pleasant impression or mot. . Equally as hard to talk to. are the people who "gush." When you wear a new hat, they exclaim over it as though it were a jeweled crown; if you mention a snake, they clasp their hands, shriek with hor- ror, and act as though they were about to faint; they go into hyster- ics over a trifling joke: They are just as thrilled when you say you picked up a pin as they would be if you had announced that you had found a bag of diamonds. They nev- er seem sincere; you feel that there is something hypocritical about them, or shallow, at least, for sur- ely nobody can feel so much genu- ine emotion about everything. Strive for the happy medium, a pleasant appreciation of what oth- er people say and do, showing that you are really interested, without the exaggerated enthusiasm which would be appropriate only in a slave, afraid he will have his head cut off if he does not humor his master.--Selected. REQUESTS EDITOR'S PRESENCE AT SCENE OF HIS HANGING Austin, Texas, Oct. 4.--Believing that the presence of his favorite edi- tor will add to Ris success of his final spectacular appearance in public, Ro- bert F.
