Fice and Mr. John Lind- say and Miss Verna Fice motored lo Rochester on Friday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Godwin, snd Mr. and Mrs. Basson and Mrs. Courtney. While there they attend- ad' the wedding of Mr. Fice's ne- phew. They returned on Monday, Miss Emma Fice and Miss Gertrude Fice who had been visiting in Ro- shester for a couple of weeks re- turned with them. Mr. and Mrs, Norman Lyons and babe spent the week-end with Miss Alma Fice, while her parents were away to Rochester. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoy of Ken. dal spent the week-end with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Tattersall, While there the both families motored to Orillia to visit an aunt who is ill. The fire which destroyed Mr. Will Leask's big barn was clearly seen from here and also from Osh- awa. We sympathize . with Mr, Leask in his heavy loss. Mr. Ed Fice has been appointed caretaker for 8. S. No. 11, The school will re-open for the fall term on Monday 17. The teachers sre Mr. Arnott, Miss Rathwell and Miss Cunningham. It was expected 'hat the school would have been ready for this Monday, but some material had been delayed. Mrs. Moffatt has returned from a pleasant visit with relatives and Jriendsin Rochester and Hilton, N, y, ENNISKILLEN Enniskillen, Sept 11.--Our Wo- men's Missionary Society paid a vigit with Tyrone Auxilliary on Thursday, papers were given on prayer by Mrs, R. Gilbert also Mrs. H. Werry, readings by Mrs. Ed- win Ormiston, Mrs. L. Ashton piano duet by Miss Ruby Smith and Miss Pascoe, a solo was given hy Miss Eleine Palmer also vocal duet hy Mrs, R. Ormiston and Mrs. L, Ashton, after which lunch was ser- ved. All report a profitable time' Our Rural School Fair was held at Tyrone Monday. There was quite a competition' in marching, sing- ing and physical exercises, Ennis- killen took first in singing. Enfield tok first in marching, Union school took first in physical drill. "Open Ye the gates of the Temple," which all en- joyed. The attendance getting around one hundred and twenty. Sorry to hear of Mr. Will Leask's heavy loss in losing all his barns with season's crop, seven horses, two large pure-bred cattle, through fire with lightning. MYRTLE Myrtle, Sept. 12.--Mr. and Mrs, Fairclough, of Hamilton, were re. cent visitors with their daughter, Mrs. H. Roy Bright. Preparations are being made for the annual Rally Day service which is being held the last sabbath of this month, Miss Vera Cook and Mrs. Dave Leury were appointed as a committee to look after the pro- gramme, Mr. Wilfred Graham is in Osh- awa this week acting as one of the judges on the preserved fruit ex- hibit, Mrs. Graham has been acting in this capacity for a number of vears and must be getting quite sensitive to the different flavors of fruit. Miss Bertha M. Holliday visited her brother and other friends in Toronto last week. The men of the community have heen enjoying some splendid games of "Barnyard Golf this summer, tossing the shoe. A very heavy thunderstorm ac- companied by a heavy rain passed over here on Monday night, and although the lightning was rather sharp for this time of the year no local damage was reported, hut fir- es were quite noticeable in the dis- tance, Some claim that an electric storm at this season of the year is a splendid sign of a long open fall, the farmers will greatly benefit if this is the case as they have heen unahle to speed up with fall plow- ing owing to the continuous dry weather, The Women's Missionary Society will hold their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Dave G. Ross next Thursday when new president will be elected to take Mrs. Sway- ne's place, Success to those who are show- ing stock or other exhibits at Osh- awa and Port Perry Fairs this week, The school children are making great preparations for the annual school fair which is being held at Brooklin on the 19th, Many and Some are becoming quite expert at | this section. ; Mr. and Mrs. James Dickson and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Pilkey re- turned last week from a six weeks motor trip to Alberta and other Prairie Provinces. They report that in some parts of the West the crops were splendid, while other parts suffered from hail. All the party were much impressed with the Great West but were pleased to ar- rive safely back in the land of thelr birth. Fair Ontario again. Mr. John Buckett is running the mail on the Myrtle Station route to finish out Mr. Roy Thompson's term, which expires in March. Roy has a fine new truck and is busy hauling stock to Toronto for the farmers, The Epworth League will soon be opening up for the fall. This is a splendid branch of church work and it is hoped that young and old of the neighborhood will be in sym- pathy with it. The latter, J. Masson, stepped up and asked the visitor what he could do for hin. Without & word, the man pulled a hammer from beneath his coat and felled Masson with a heavy blow. A clerk who witnessed the at- tack shouted for help, and the in- truder dashed out of the building and made his escape. It is thought htat the young man was attempting a hold-up.
