he @shawa Daily Times 1he Oshawa "Daily | Reformer OSHAWA, ONTARIO, SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 1928 sdeedeedefoadedosdede ded Suggested Municipal Square on the Site of the Present Meinorial Park on Simcoe Street South F TIMELY interest is the plan for a municipal square prepared by Mr, Roy H, Bishop expressly for this edition, The illustration is of much constructive value and will repay, careful study, It will be noticed that the square is bordered on thie north and south by Metcalf and John Streets, and on the west and east by Centre and Celina Streets, with Simcoe Street running through, forming the square proper: The plan provides for the provision on the north side of Metcalf Street of a city hall and also the Masonic Temple now in course of construction. Directly behind the city hall and connected therewith is the Fire and Police Department, facing on Bagot Street, king Ahead! The Requirements for On the south side, facing on John Street, is the much needed Technical School and directly, west thereof a Y.M.C.A and Y,W.C.A., building, . , To the west of the square is the present Centre Street School, while on the east side of Simcoe Street is a small park bordered on the west by Celina Street and on the south by Ash Street, The proposed square gives a central grouping of all the civic and municipal buildings facing the park, with the Cenotaph forming a central feature of the whole square, The consummation of this plan would take some years to accomplish, but it provides a valuable basis for the discussion of future civic buildings. a Greater » " ES prone r As tatiaihe 8 ae askhen b
