Kingston were leading by 4 ta 0'in the first inning, when Belleville started to take advantage of Smith's wild- ness, and finally tied the count. He was replaced by Van Young, and the Nationals went into the lead with two more runs, In the ninth two men walked, and Jeffery was relieved, Gibson taking up the box burden. A single filled ghe bases, and Ada's hit gcored two runs, Cherry then won the game when he 'counted on Tetro's sacrifice. The game was witnessed by the largest crowd of the season and was a contest in which slugging and good outfielding played a major part, The box score: Belleville ABR H PO Ross, cf 6 V. Weir, 2b H. F) Oshawa was again successful on Saturday 'in defeating Birchelilfe by a score of 95 for Oshawa, as against Bircheliffe's 66. The game was opened by the locals going to bat. Pickup and Chappell being the first two batters, Pickup was unlucky in judging a break and was bowled, Chappell was playing a steady bat as usual and a very clever performance was witnessed, Eccles, batting in harness with this boy, made a even move show, Chap- pell got a double figure, while He- cles contributed 4 Howarth, Fow- ler, Haley and Haining making the score up, Haley 28, Howarth 21, Haining 12, Fowler 6 were some good batting on the part of Haley who should have carried his bat, but was an eager batsman, and got caught, Howarth got his usual boundaries and was keen in pick- ing the right ones out, The rest of the team--Lesy, Anthony, Sar- gent and Moore--showed better form than before, but could not get set, However, what was lost by their small contribution in reins was remarkably retrieved by their good fielding, Pickup's 2 wic- kets for 24 showed his form was excellent, Howarth's 5 for 18 gave him the bowlwing honors for the day. Both 'bowling and batting this season has Deen of high calibre, as of late years, and we hope for still better, There is one need in the cricket circles of Oshawa and that is, a few old cricketers who are still interested enough in the game but are not active enough to take a playing part, to give their attention to becoming umpires. If there are such men as would be interested, I would like very much to get into touch with thenr so as to arrange a meeting. It means hecoming 8 member of the Toronto and district Cricket Umpires Association, This brings the umpire $2 per game, and keeps him in Oshawa. It: there are a few who would | kindly give their Saturday after. noons to this sport, I am sure it will do away with the unnecessary traveling of umpires from Toronto, Write L. L. Fowler, 526 Cubert street, or 'phone 1549, The Oshawa C.C. (Oshawa) at Lakeview Saturday, June 9. This is the first time two local teams have met in cricket, and it should he a game in the Derby sphere well worth watching. Kingston Belleville in the Limestone City , Staging a last inning rally to pull out in fromt 7-6, The slugsing tes 'are a fighting team and Manager Joe Daly never gives up till the last man is out, and even then he can talk a win against anyone and everybody. " Jeffrey lost his own game, issuing two passes to start the final session. Gibson took up the burden and allowed Cherry to stroll, and Ada then proved his usefulness by hitting a single to right field scoring two runs, Cherry getting the winning tally on Tetro's sacrifice fly, ! The ington crew pay their first visit to Oshawa tomorrow night and Alexandra Park showld be crowded to capacity, The locals pounded out a 17-14 win when they journeyed to Kingston two weeks ago and Kingston fans still have a bad taste in their mouths, Fourteen runs should be enough to win any ball game, but when the other team registers seventeen, its a dot of waste energy, ! The Motors players received a fine razzing from the manage- ment for the defeat on Saturday from the Belleville Nationals. Eight runs and then a loss makes us sympathize with Kingston, The Kingston victory yesterday was sweet revenge fdr Man. ager Joe Daly who insists that the opening game that Belleville won by 3-1 was simply a gift from a big-hearted team. Len Smith and Fred Whittemore who referred the Oshawa at St, Catharines Senior Lacrosse game last Saturday were so delight. ed with the clean play of both teams that a report to that effect was sent to the officials of 0.A.L.A, Such action is to be commend- ed! Too frequently when anything happens to the detriment of the game the incident is brought to the notice of the executives, "Credit where credit is due' should be the slogan of all the of- ficlals, The game at St, Cathariens is an excellent criterion of the brand of lacrosse played nowadays. Oshawa players only received two penalties and both of them were for minor infractions, St, Simons 13-4 victory at the expense of the fast Brampton team came as a complete surprise to supporters and players alike, The Saturday before the disaster, the Bramptonites forced the Anglicans into overtime before they dropped a 7-6 decision, The complete reversal of form has the Flower town natives with a emperature of 106, The Saints were minus two of their fastest ome fielders, Davis and Braden, but they stepped right out from the face-off and proceeded to pile up the score. The Excelsiors will hardly have an off-day like Saturday again this season. The O0.AL.A, has arranged a preliminary grouping for the Minor Lacrosse Series. General Motors Juniors have been grouped with North Toronto, St. Simons, Maitlands, Torontos and Weston. The first and second teams to play off for the championship of the group, Oakville, St. Catharines, Brantford and Paris form the second group, The Queen City is doing fairly well with an entry of four teams in the series, Lacrosse seems to he picking up. Oshawa fight fans are preparing to make a wholesale migm- tion to Toronto for the Belanger-Rocco hrawl at the Mutual Street Arena tonight. Belanger has plenty of supporters right in this city but Rocco has them keeping the roll out of sight, "Frenchy" {is Just a little too smart for the swarthy Rocco, is the general con- sensus of opinion but nevertheless the way the champion has been acting in his last few fights has his supporters a trifle wary of investing too heavily in Belanger stock, Chevrolet Ladies, of the Oshawa Softball League, stepped into hot water when they travelled to Belleville Saturday for a tilt with the Beavers of that city, The Secretary of the Ladies' Gov- erning Association heard about it and promptly wired them notice of suspension, The local team were unaware of the action until after the game had been played and were forced to do some tall ex- plaining to convince Miss Mabel Ray, the secretary of their good intentions, The suspension was cancelled, however, and the ladies' league will open tomorrow night when Buicks clash with Chevs. An executive meeting was held last night: when officials were ap- pointed for the season. Softhall fans will be well entertained this summer. Oshawa Collegiate athletes cleaned up in the -enior events at the District High School Track and Field meet at Cobourg yesterday, winping firsts in all the Senior events except the Javelin throw and the Mile run, where they placed 2nd. Murray Kohen stood out in the local Collegiate's victory winning five firsts and competing in the Mile Relay which was also won by 0.C.I. The Intermediates and Juniors were prominent in their events but the Oshawa representation was not as large as in the Senior series. The winners will compete in Toronto on the 7th of September for the Interscholastic Championships. ~ T MAJOR SOOCER LEAGUE Kingston 1eam ere 1omorro The hard-hitting Kingston C. One big innings, the second, in which the Royals scored 10 runs, spelled defeat for Leo Mangum, who went the route for the Bisons despite a shower of 19 hits. Sherrid, who started for Mont- real, showed signs of being unahle to hold his huge lead, and Rufus Smith and finally Hopkins were hurled ito the breach. Hopkins capped yesterday's fine perform- ance by turning in some sensa- tional relief hurling striking out the last man in the ninth to retire the side after the Bisons had scor- ed two runs and had come within two of tying the count, A homer by Gully was one of the features of the morning game while Hollingsworth strfick out 15 men. He walked four, however, and the Royals' timely hitting won Libby's Pork and Beans, 18 oz, tins, 3 tins Win ford. ceived to date in the @.AL.A..
