The first three teams will qualify for the play-offs for the champion- ship, the second and third meeting in a home and home series and the win- ners taking on the club that finished first. The last game of this final ser- es will be plaved on October 6. It was Hankins' first victory of the season. As a matter of fact it was the frist time that the former De- troit and Newark right-hander has been able to stay on the hilltop for the full nine innings, but apparent- ly he hes found himself and may be expected to go on to greater things. Bill O'Hara hopes so, also Prey Solman and Vice-prexy Dunn, all ol whom have been counting strongly on him to win at least 20 games for the Leafs this season. Another Southpaw Probably thinking of the success the left-hander Coumbe enjoyed against the Leafs on Monday, Jack Dunn sent Stewart Bolen, another southpaw, to the pitching throne yesyterday. Bolen had a world of stuff, but his idea as to the loca- tion of the platd was rather vague, and sevgn bases on balls did nol work in his favor, He allowed ten hits to twelve made off Hankins, but four of the Birds' twelve came in the last inning, and accounted for two runs. Hankins kept the Baltimore blows well scattered, pitching skil- fully with men on bases. In addi- tion he was given strong backing by his supporting cast, the infield holding him up in a fashionable way, wth two double plays popping into the picture when -they were needed, - The lightweights of the Leals carried their team's punch, Burke and Cote each having two hits, with the shortstop driving in two runs and carrying another over himsell. Burke twice crossed the , plate, while Webb and Phillips each pro- pelled one over, and another count- ed on a passed ball, Hectic Game Throughout It was a hectic game throughout, with the umpires coming in for con- siderable abuse, Before it was over Manager O'Hara, Coach Burchell and Outfielder Sheedy of the Leafs had been shown the short way to the gate, while Captain Billy Webl had been threatened with the sam? punishment, The fun started when Webb took objection to Gaston's decision on a third strike in the third inning. Webb thought he should have hal a pass, hut Gaston ruled other- wise, The captain gave the umpire guite an argument, finally being forced to retire to the bench a sub- dued, but not a beaten man, Then 'in the fifth, with Webb on second Sheedy cut the ball past Maigel, and it appeared to he on its way to left field, but Urbanski raced oyer, came up with it in his gloved hand and made a fast throw to third. Gaston called Webh out, and that was a signal for O'Hara, Burchell and Webb to rush to the plate. They stamped around, did # lot of talking, but finally O'Hara and Burchell did the lockstep to the clubhouse, ¥ BRAMPTON'S NEW PLAYERS Brampton, May 8.--Excelsiors held their second practice of the season tonight at Rosalea, and there was a large number of play- ers out, Coach Walter Mara was in charge and put the boys through a fast practice and was more than pleased with the material he has to round out a strong senior twelve, The veterans have not all turned out yet, but it is expected that by the opening of the lacrosse season that there will be few ab- sentees, Gowdy, the Hamilton star, is one of the new players in town who is sure of a place, and his work in practice is exception- ally favorable. O'Hearn Elgin and Jim Smart Fogg a Western recruit; and Jim Smart Fogg, of last year's Georgetown O.A.L.A. intermediate team; Gibson and "Foss" Wilson are among the recruits aspiring for a place on the twelve. HUMERY KAYOES CUTHBERT Paris, May 8.--Tiger Humery, French featherweight champion, amply avenged his knockout by the British boxer, Johnny Cuth- bert, last September, by stopping Cuthbert in the seventh round of 2 12-round return match here to- night. Cuthbert's seconds threw in the sponge after Cuthbert twice had been floored for counts of eight and seven, REGENT Now Playing CHARLIE CHAPLIN "The Circus" SHOW WELL IN PRACTICE | SPOR? With but very few exceptions the games have been arranged for Saturdays while others are on holidays. Looking over the schedule one can draw the conclu- sion that this year's race for the senior silverware will be probably the most interesting for many seasons. The evening was spent in some hard net practice getting the boys back to their usual form, With the new additions to the club it puts strength in the batting, where it was lacking last year, W, G. Moore, one of our new addi- tions, is very clever with the hat and should be a great asset to the team. 'I. Longbottom is another recruit who shows great form and should keep the scorer working very hard. KE. Chappell, who ar- rived here from Yorkshire, where cricketeers are born ,is a proven bowler and should keep the score of our opponents low, We are very sorry to hear of our youthful cricketer being ill and hope for his speedy recovery, A. Haley is the youth, and he is missed amon? the boys. So here's to his being back again soon getting the crease heated wit}, runs. We have the same man behind the wicket and he is to hard to replace, so keep an eye on George for he knows his wickets, We are very much in- debted to the following gentlemen for taking such a great interest in our welfare and seeing to it that the boys get everything they want, Mr, W. G. Moore, of Dunbarton, Mr, R. W. Millichamp, Mr, George McLaughlin, Mr. R. 8, McLaugh- lin, To these men I wish to say the boys of the Oshawa C, C. are going out this season and earn the gratitude shown them in such a sporting way.
