Shaw, leader of the Liberal Opposition, in the house Monday afternoon Capt. Shaw referred to a motion on the order paper of the day which stated that any conrsidera- tion of the old age pension bill would be deferred until next ses- sion and that in the meantime the Alberta Government should ~ontinue to urge upon the Domin- fon Government that it assume the whole or a larger share of respon- sibility under the act. It was charged by Capt. Shaw that this was an effort to shift responsibility to the Dominion. He ~laimed that old age pensions were already in effect in British Colum- bia, that Manitoba and Saskat- chewan were both bringing into effect enabling legislation and that Alberta "stuck out like a sore thumb," as the only western prov- 'nce which was not realizing its responsibilities in the matter. The Liberal leader wound 1, his address by moving an amend- ment to the Throne Speech re =retting failure of the government to take action at the present ses- sion in regard to old age pen- sions. This amendment resulted 'nm the first division of the ses sion. When the Speaker ru=d the amendment out of order, as anticipating 8 motion already on the order paper, a vote of the | House was taken and the ruling of the Speaker sustained 44 to 6.
