Sa ylums to Houses of Refuge ' RECOMMEND VOTE 7 ON STREET NAMES (Continued from Page 1) the many new subdivisions being cpened, difficulty was being experi- enced by many in finding the streets. Dr. Kaiser stated he would not venture an opinion on the subject as he thought a plebiscite at the coming municipal elections was the vroper thing as iy would get the f pinion of the ratepayers. He thought the public was entitled to decide in 'view of the fact that there is a certain amount of public sentiment involved and it was a «(uestion of whether or not the rate. payers would want to have their favorite old names replaced by numbers. D. M. Tod did not talk on the matter at length. He merely stated the city of Los Angeles, California, has .a system similar to that de- geribed in vogue. It also has a method of locating the street num- bers, especially in regard to indi- { vidual houses. For illustration, if {a person in Los Angeles wanted 999 | 12th street, he or she would have |to Bo down 12th street and if the | party was riding on a street car, | they would get off at the 9th street [ "rowr] the main §nterseotion. Mr. | Tod said the system works out very well. i Dr. T. W, G. McKay also referred | ta the suggestion locally as a good one in view of the faet that new- | comers to the city, and even many are having considerable difficulty in finding streets. He mentioned the fact that taxi drivers very often do not know where to take him when he tells them to go to Ris own home, despite the fact that he tells them who he is.
