Deceased had spent the greater part of his life in this neighborhood, being the youngest son of the late James and Rachael Stephens. The news of his death came as a shock to his friends here as he was just in the prime of life being in his thirtieth year when he was stricken with Bright's disease, a few weeks ago, from which he suffered until his death in the Bowmanville hospital last Sai- urday. 'LEAVES OCEAN TICKETS IN PURSE ON TRAIN BUT RECOVERS THEM New York, Oct. 7.--The Freych liner Savoie was due to shove off at 11 o'clock this morning. Exactly at 11 o'clock Jeannine and Marguer- ite Roux, of Montreal, came up the gangplank and fumbled for pheir tickets. Miss Jeannine, to her hor- ror, discovered then, for the first time, that she didn't have her purse, which contained the tickets, $135 in cash, and divers other articles. Miss Jeahnine dashed for the tele- phone gn the dock, before she had learned that the sailing of the ship had been postponed at the last mo- ment until four o'cock, for late 1dad- ing of cargo, and telephoned the Pullman company, at the Grand Cen- tral Station. The porter, luckily, had turned the purse in. The Pull- man company sent it to: the pier at once. The Roux sisters then learn- ed of the postponement.
