The gate receipts this year were much in excess of last year, but the exact amount has not yet been calculated. Liskard school won first prize in the parade, with Kirby school second and Orono third. Liskard and Kirby both put on a delightfully quaint, fancy drill before the grand stand, in 'which Orono did not compete. In rendering their decision as to which school should get the first prize of .$12, the judges, General = John Hughes and Captain Fred C. Palmer, both of Bowmanville, decided that the Liskard school, with double the num- ber of scholars were the more deserv- ing, since more than. half of them were much younger than the students of Kirby, their nearest competitors. Kir- by school received $8 for second prize, the amount given to Orono school as third prize. The skating arena, most appropriate for the purpose since it adjoins the exhibition grounds and has an entrance {nto it, was filled with exhibits of many classes. The apple exhibits were especially good, many different classes being shown under this heading. The boys' 'training school gave a dis- play of their gymnastic ability under the leadership of Earl Cunningham, and were accorded a fine welcome. Flag drills, pryamids, marches were a few of the featuressof this exhibition. The horse races as usual attracted a lot of devotees of this sport. Some, however, complained sthat the short track, with no long "straight stretch, made it almost impossi e for another to pass the horse whith once gained the lead. 3 C. W. DETENBECK KING ST.
