(70-75-8085) TWO KILLED BY BLAST Rivere du Loup, Que, Sept. 28-- Two men, Ludger Desbiens, aged 27, pnd Leon Nignault, aged 40, were killed and six others seriously in- "jured when a boiler in a butter fae- tory in the Village of Saint Clement exploded yesterday: The factory be- longed to.J. Roy of St, Clement. (Continued from Page Nine) to make things sare he would need 10 place in at least one other even:. However, an injury to his knee while jumping may prevent this, Kohen and Armstrong are the two most dangerous competitors for the school senior ckampionship this year and indications are that Mon- days remaining events will be a race between the two for the senior championship. High Jumps Featured The senior running high jumps record was broken in a sensational yet beautiful exhibition by Barney Black who broke a record that has been standing since 1921 when D. Hall went over 5 ft. 2% inches, This has been unequalled until yes- terday when Black went one quarter of an inch higher. To be exact, he crossed the bar well at 5 ft, 2% inches. It was one of the best dis- plays of jumping ever witnessed by followers of the sport, The lad showed wonderful style and there is little doubt in the writer's mind, that. had it been light when. the last: jumps were taken, Black wuuia have gone more than the solitary quarter of an inch over the old record. The other jumpers in this event, Daniels and Armstrong also showed wonderful exhibitions al- though they did not have the siam- ina to back their prowness up. Gamer lads never wore the trunks, than Danjels and Armstrong and the light may have affécted them also. ' 8. Schillenkoff added another inch to the junior pole vault and carried off ithe championship of this class when he vaulted over a height of 7 feet and 2 inches, just one inch more than the record held by R. Mounce of 1917." Girls Break Records Not only did thé male contest: ants break records at the meet, but the girls hung up several that will stand some competing. Clara Lar- sen tucked the first one away when she, hopped, skipped and' jumped for a distance of 27 feet. and 3 inches, thus breaking the previously established junior record of 26 ft and 10 inches. = The senior girls' running broad jump mark was set at 12 feet and 9 inches. The rec- ord was 12 feet. This latter mark was broken by A Ross. Clara Lar- sen threw the baseball for a dist- ance of 146 feet and 4 inches, thus breaking the former record of 139 feet. Pickering, > VOICES A STRONG APPEAL FOR SUBWAY \ (Continued from Page Nise) in the north part of the city, but also outside of the city, north, east, and west, and there latter residents should have been built in the best building section in Oshawa which lies south of the C.N.R, tracks, and in Cedardale. Cedardale is blessed, in the one hand by having storm and sanitary sewers and water mains running throughout, and, on the hard, remains undeveloped because of the level crossing over the C.N.R. "Hundreds of workmea who live in Cedardale are hindered by the lack of the subway from going to and fro to their work, and the citizens in the north pari of the city, in the summer months, are hindered by the same cause from free access to the lake and Lake- view Park.: "If the subway were constructed, houses would no longer be built out- side of the City limits, but would be built in Cedardale, and the city at large would receive the enefit of the increased assessment. Along these lines I predict that the in- creasp in the assessment of the lands within a few blocks of the subway will more than take care of the citys share of the building of the same," WILL REPRESENT GOVERNMENT AT DESSAULLES CENTENARY Ottawa, Ont., Sept. 28--The Gov- ernment of Canada will be repre- sented tomorrow when the town of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, honors Sen- ator George U.
