In this con- nection I poing out that the Ontario Legislature passed an aet to the effect that a marriage license could' not be ohtained without the cop- sent of the parents where one of the parties was upder a specified age, This act came up for discussion in the courts of Ontario, and .it was pointed out by the court that the act as then enacted was ineffectual. The act was accordingly amended 80 as to remedy the previous defect. The object of the act is to prevent the issuance of a license and subse- quent marriage of young people who haye not attained the reguired age unless the parents consemt. "In order to obtain a "license in the case in which yon criticize my judgment both parties to the mar- riage committed perjury. The par- ents of the young girl swore out an information leading to their arrest. Both pleaded guilty to the crime of perjury. The usual 'punishment pre- scribed by the code -and contem- plated by Parliament for perjury such as this is imprisonment not exceeding seven years.
