The Council at the instance of the Government of Sierra Leone passed an ordinance last year designed to remove the last vestige of reecogni- tion of the status of glavery. Sub- sequent action by two slave owners récapturing runaway slaves led to their prosecution and conviction, but on appeal to the Sierra Leone Supreme Court the conviction was quashed.
