Hay and potdtoes suffered from rain in the northen district of the province while in the eastern town- ships frost caused a little damage to tomatoes, beets an cucumbers, while in some of the localities in the Montreal district rain, frost and black rust damaged various crops. The report for the Montreal dis- trict states: In this reglon, reap- ing 1s not advanced. Barley, wheat and oats will give a good crop, Potatoes are fairly abund- ant. In Montcalm and L'Assomp- tion counties the tobacco crop will be mediocre. On the other hand, in Joliette and Berthier counties, the outlook is excellent, \Indian corn will give an ordinary yield. There will be few apples and plums, but an ordinary yield of vegetables. In general, cereals did not suffer from dryness, In some localities, rain, frost and black rust caused a little damage, Local markets are good and dairy products sell fairly well, £4,000 DAMAGES FOR MANCHESTER WOMAN London--Mr, Justice Acton awarded £4,000 damages at Manchester Assizes to Mrs. Ada Driver, aged 29, of Traf- ford Park, Manchester, who lost both her legs and part of her left hand when run over by a goods train at Trafford Park.
