Lack of Warning Signs Whithy, Sept. 7.--The lack of warning signs on the level crossing of the Whithy and Lindsay Ry. on Dundas street east was discussed by the Town Council last night. No definite answer could be had to the question whether or not it was in- cumbent upon the Town to supply and fix the signs on each side of the crossing. The Town Engineer was instructed to consult the solici- tor' concerning the Town's liability in the matter. The affair was re- ferred to the Streets Committee. Sidewalk Whithy, Sept. 7.--It has been proposed that the sidewalk along the highway east of Whitby should be put through the embankment at te subway where the C.P.R. crosses the road. H. L. Pringle, Town En- gineer, was instructed by the Town Council to write to Hon. G. S. Henry, Minister of Public Highways and find out what the ruling of the Department is in the matter. 'It may in the opinion of some of the councillors be necessary to submit the case to the Railway Board. Un- doubtedly a tunnel through the em- bankment would be the safest means of passing the subway. August Fines 8205 Whitby, Sept. 7.--The Town of Whitby received jn fines the sum of $205 during the month of Au- gust, according to the report of Chief of Polic eH. Gunson. Penalties imposed under the Highway Traffic Act accounted for $165 and the re- mainder, $40 came from infractions of the Liquor Control Act.
