St, Andrew's made Peterboro's best look like a team in a different class altogether in both the game last night and that on Saturday, and yet they didn't seem to be extending them- selves in the least. The splendid pitching of Jess Doyle in the first and Vic Sorrell in the wind-up game, together with the gilt-edged fielding and effective bat- ting behind them was responsible for the Jersey City shortage in tallies. Doyle showed fine derensive work in the curtain-raiser to hold the locals sufe after being touched up for ten hits, while Leon Williams, whe oppos- ed him held the Leafs to eight, from which they managed to squeeze out a brace of three runs. Burke Steals Home It was Toronto's lucky bunching in the fourth that paved the way for the success that followed. Two hits were stuck in this, the only inning in which more than one hit was allowed, and it was due to Merwin Jacobson, who 'has appeared at his best in this trip 'here, that the stage was set. He hit hard to centre for two bases, and took third when Harrington sacrificed. Burke was rewarded with a free trip, Alex- and 'r then tore off the drive that scor- ed Jacobson to balance the run regis- tered hy the Skceters 'in the third. BOWLING TROPHY TO CHANGE HANDS Toronto, Aug. 17.--The Gold Cup, emblematic of the Dominion lawn bowling champlonship, will travel to a new club this year, as Balmy Beach and Toronto Victorias yesterday qualified to meet in the finals on the lawns of the Toronto Canoe Club today. Lighthourne's Vies advanced with a win over W, Scott's Parkdale rink. Neither club has won the honor before, and there should be a great match when they meet this after- noon at 2 o'clock, Good progress was made in the Dominion tourney yesterday, the finals being' reached in the main event, while the semi-finals were neared in the Ontaria competition and part of the fourth round was played in the Toronto Trophy event, the second consolation series.
