aati * THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, "SATURDAY. AUGUST 6, 1927 y For In ustrial Leagu e "nn Finals "rimmers, Defeated By ~ - 4 , caused a mild sensation #4 the Industrial Softball League les last night when they defeat- Trimmers by a 9 to 6 score to in the right to meet Chevs for 'champlonshp of the Industrial ball League. It has just been recéntly that Cadillacs made their ui for the play-downg coming from behind and overcoming a millstone around their necks in the Tem of a number of games which they dropped at the first of the reason before they got under way aad proceeded to win games at the tat pace they displayed last night, 80 that their victory was all the more overwhelming. The game was a sudden death affair, with Trimmers being the favorites on ac- eonnt of their standing higher in the league. One of the best soft- ball crowds of the season saw the game and all were well satisfied with the brand of ball that was ser- ved up. ~The battle wasn't decided until the eighth. inning and up till then it was anybody's game with the fact being readily recognized that it would be: either the team that got the breaks or the one that came through with the heaviest hit- ting that would win the game. Hits at the right time for Cadillacs tells the story and there is very little which could be accredited to the ' "breaks." J Home runs by Love for Cadillacs and Lott for the Trimmers were the batting features of the game, while on the field, some note- worthy plays were made hy Love- 1gek and Matthews. Doubles were by W. Hall, Matthews, and Sal- n for the Caddies and by Kil- birn for Trimmers. There were ng triples. Both pitchers turned in worthy games and deserve credit for goinz the route and gathering if four strike outs in Martin's case in Salmon's. Salmon y while Martin went ) a clean pet as far as charities were con- ned, "Roth teams got off to a right foot start in the first innings when thev ran over three counters In 8th case. Four hits In fast sue- fon were responsible for the runs that went to L. Hall, Roddick ald W. Hall for Cadillacs, while ffmmers got theirs almost as ly when Lovelock walked and was followed by three hits from Tintt and Elliott and Kilburn to sgore Lovelock, Lott and Elliott, Il went smooth from here until fourth' stanza when Cadillacs ged apother . eruption awl put three more runners across before t were quelled. Copeland hed, Love homered, Matthews ubled and Trimmers' infield er- ri to give the three tallies. Primmers replied with two runs in the fifth when Lott drove out his homer with Lovelock on the paths as the result of a single which he thered in previously. The next ring was in the eighth when hoth outfits again took a hand at it. Cadillacs took three and for the third time in as many scoring ~fanzas, they got four hits to drive them in. Benson, Copeland and Matthews got the runs while the hits went to these with Salmon making the fourth. Trimmers were only able to score one but it was far better than nothing at that critical stage of the game. Elliott brought it in on a single followed by another from Kilburn. With such a good sample as this in. the semi-finals, the champion- ship series should promise to be a whirlwind and all of the fans who saw the game last night, along with many more will be sure to be back again for the games on Tues- dav and Thursday. His weight was announced as 19034, while Soloman scaled at 187%. The Toronto heavy started in from the outset to pile up points and his accurate leit hand beat a tattoo on Solomon's face. lhe first round produced little in the way of excitement and the fans yelled for action. In the fourth Gains was all over his lumbering opponent and crashed him with lefts and rights to cut his nose badly. Throughout the rest of the bout Gains made these cuts his targets, and the Panama boxer was kept on the defensive and in evident distress.
