TRAFFIC INCREASES (Kingston Standard) The bulletin published by the Bu- reaun of Statistics shows an increase in. the railway traffic of the Canadian railways. This is eminently satis- factory. It applies to both passen- ger and freight. The increase is not large, but it is there, and it can be relied upon to go on increasing in view of the harvest which can now be counted upon. One deduc- tion can be made, that the cgmpe- tition of the motor traffic can not be as great as was anticipated by a good many people. In the second per- iod the Motors came away strong and von by five goals to three: Swansea won the spin of the coin, and Motors kicked off against the wind and made for the Swansea goal where they sent past." They return- ed again andl almost scored. From the goal kick Swansea carried the ball right up to the Motors' goal, where Smith saved brilliantly. Swansea made a second attempt to score and were successful after four minutes lay . Smith was injured in trying to save the goal. Though badly injured and handicapped; Smith played to the finish of the game. The game was very even at this stage, Swansea sent past at Motors' end, then Motors forced a corner and again were unfor- tunate in not scoring. They however and W. With ten minutes of this period to go Swansea broke into Motors' end and one of their players was roubght down in the penalty area. From the penalty kick Swansca secured their second goal, but Smith again saved and Swansea had the ball again in Motors' territory and scored again, cight minutes from the interval. Smith made a brave attempt to save but was handicapped with his injury. With cight minutes to play and two goals down, Motors forced the pace, but offside spoiled a good chance, then McMannus headed over by inches, a near thing. When the whistle sound- ed for half time Motors were press- ing but had to retire with score three to one against them. Second Half Swansea started the second period by attacking Motors goal right away, but it did not last long as seemed determined to wipe out Swan- sca's two goal lead and after five minutes' play, Smith, for Swansea was beat but one of his backs fisted the ball out and a penalty was allowed. Me Manuus toek the kick and madeno iistake, 'making the Motors' scarce Xo. A minute later McMannus, again beat Smith, thus equalizing the! game after six minutes' play. Both teams being now level, went at it with a will. First Motors secyred a corner, then Swensea got one also. Motors became aggressive and McMannus missed by inches. Smith in goal for Swansea was playing a wonderful game and saved some hard shots, but R. Simpson beat him with a nice an- gular shot, fifteen minutes from the start of the second period. The Mo- tors, now leading for the first time in the game, were determined to keep the lead and looked like winners, but Swansea were not idle. On three oc- casions Draper struck the side of Mo- tors' nets but the wrong side. They knew Smith was crippled and they tried long shooting to beat him, but he did all that was asked of him. Mo- tors again scored but it was disallow- cd for some infringement. However a few minutes later W. Simpson and cMannus worked the ball into a > position. Smith rdn out to save tl» situation but McMannus drove hard past him into the net, thus scor- ing his third goal and Motors fifth. With still ten minutes to play both teams played hard, both goals were attacked in turn but when time was called, the Mc ors emerged winners of a hard game, the score being Mo- tors 5, Swansea 3.
