= AY, MARCH 10, 1926 - a . NEW HAMBURG'S TITLE :- PETES WIN a i iP ee ---------- CHURCH LEAGUE FINALS TONIGHT Hambur, rs Win Jonors; Defeat Grimsby 3to0 Grimsby, March 9.--Grimsby went down to" defeat here tonight at the hands of New Hamburg in the final of the O.H.A, intermediate playoffs, the visitors winning the game by 3 to 0, and the right to meet Feterboro i in Ne Ontario final. The game was a poor exhibition of hockey, with enough en- livening plays to give it interest. Reid and McVicar were decidedly oif color, which partly accounts for the shutout victory scored by the visitors, The first period went scoreless, but in the second, Bowman and Roth beat Fisher. The first goal came from a mix-up in front of the Grimsby net. Grimsby batting the puck past Fisher in the scramble. Roth repeated for "the second counter before Grimsby had recovered from the first goal, The third counter was scored on a Bowman-to-Roth combination early in the third period, Bowman passing to Roth, who shot and scored on his own rebound. The remainder of the ganic was slow, neither team trying very hard, * There was no small amount of heavy checking, which slowed up the pace. Penalties were fairly numerous, with Grimsby being the chief offenders. Grimsby claims that the illness of Reid and Carson wet thc chief factors in their defeat." McVicar also was report- cd torbe off color, However, Néw Hamburg deserved their victory by as wide a margin as the score indicates, They played beter hockey than the local team in every department, | NEW MARTIN THEATRE Last Times Hl 'inski; Close teecling in the carly stages of the game showed its effects, Grimsby had six men to go through every time and long 'shots, with no effect, were resorted to. McVicar and Burnside made same good shots from eentre, but liver was always there, Most of the ay was at the Grimsby end and Pen had plenty to do. Both good stick-handling and combination were absent to a great extent, though there were flashes of play that led the fans to hope the ganié was improving. In the middle of the second period Lederman Lippe McVicar and pro- bably saved oal, and while he was in the penalty Af Bellemer was sent in for tripping Foulis, but with only four opponents on the ice Grimsby could not score, At other periods of the game the puck would lie idle for brief periods, the players seemingly waiting for each other to start, With all the close-¢hecking the game could not be called rongh. Carson re- ceived a bad blow in the forehead with the puck in the first period, but he carried on without delay. At times New Hamburg players all showed some good hockey. Kalbfleisch did not have much chance, as he was not used in the game until the last few minutes.
