LOSES MONEY Write to the Council Offering to Sell the Road to the City Kingston, Feb. 11.--The follow- ing communication from the King- ston, Portsmouth & Cataraqui Street Railway Company, and signed on behalf of the directors by T. A. Me- Ginnis and H. C. Nickle, has been addressed to the Kingston Mayor and City Council and was read at the meeting of the Coungil: "As you are no doubt aware the opera- tion of the Electric Railway in Kingston has not been what youn term a financial success. Nothing has ever been paid on stock and, al- though the interest on the bonds has up to the present been met, the returns have been small, and it is now difficult to make running ex- penses due to the great number of automobiles and the local industrial depression. We have always endea- vored to give a service sufficiently frequent to meet the city's require- ments, and the maintenance of the equipment has never been neglec-| ed "As you are aware at the city's HUNDRED DOGS DESTROYED SINCE OUTBREAK OF RABIES Ottawa, Feb, 10 --The slaughter of dogs continpes in the Ottawa dis- trict as a preventive measure against the spreading of hydropho- bia, Today 16 stray dogs were des- troyed in the city pound, and In- spector L. Mulligan of the Humane Society estimates that he himself has destroyed more than 60 dogs within the past month. Altogether he estimates that approximately 100 dogs have heen destroyed in the dis- trict since the outbreak of rabies, MUMBLING WITNESSES THREAT. Miss Nixon's work with Jones in "The Circus Cowboy," "Cupid's Fireman" and "Big Dan," will be remembered a- mong the really fine delineations of the screen. The role of Molly Gore, a little waif of the plains, is said to he the best Miss Nixon has done in her brilliant, if brief, career. "Durand of the Bad Lands" was directed by Lynn Reynolds. AT THE REGENT According to reports from the of- fices of motion picture producers, the coming season is destined to he a season of comedy. These announcements come as a result of careful study of the neecs and wants oi the picture going pukh- lic. Their reports show that theatre goers respond more readily to com- edy than to any other type of pro- uction. The natural inference is hey say, that people want to be amused, The history of the motion picture comedy, as pertaining to these an- nouncements, is interesting. At the start of picture production, no pro- ducer, for many years, dared to make a feature length comedy. All fun on the screen ended at the «nd of the second reel, Then "Tillie's Punctured Ro- mance" made its appearance. Pic- ture producers gasped and the pub- lic enthused. A new era, But the feature.length comedy had not been fully developed until Al Chris- tie, famous as a picture producer, decided it was time to test an idea he had heen fostering for years, The result, "Charley's * Aunt," which is now, after a record-break- ing run throughout the land, still making sereen history. This pro- duction has shown Al Christie and his brother Charles that their idea holds water. As their next production they chose "Seven Days," from the stage comedy success by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood. This hilarious stage comedy, which will appear on the screen at the Regent Theatre tonight has all the ele- ments contained in "Charley's Aunt," with the added touch of a modern setting, As for the, plot, such a situation might happen in anyone's home. It is real, human and very much alive with comic situations and laugh- ahle touches. Scot Sidney, who directed *'Charley's Aunt," alsd" di- rects this release, and in the cast are Lillian Rich, Creighton Hale, Lilyan Tashman, Hallam Cooley, Mabel Julienne Scott, William Aus- Phone your drug needs to mining by which shdf#s and tunnels are ed, not blasfed, announced B.
