Born in Deseronto, Ontario, in 1927. Rolland was a firm believer in social justice and fair treatment for all Canadians. He was a photographer, gardener, and poet who loved the Toronto Maple Leafs. His commitment to fairness and equality led to his work at General Motors in the position of District Committeeman for the United Auto Workers. He was a tireless worker and well known in the City of Oshawa for his political activities. Always standing up for his brothers and sisters in the union. Rolly had a calm and unflappable demeanor which served him well as a union representative and in his personal life. During his tenure, the U.A.W. was one of the most powerful and highly paid unions in North America, if not the world. He was a lifelong supporter of the

N.D.P., especially Jack Layton. After retirement, he moved to Belleville, Ontario, where he was active with several cancer groups for twenty years, serving as president of the Quinte Cancer Support Group and Quinte Prostate Cancer Support Group. He was an avid dart player and continued to play long after his eyesight had limited his game, often surprising his friends at the legion. He passed away on May 1st, International Workers Day, at 93 years of age. He was predeceased by his wife Violet and left behind two daughters, a son, 5 grandsons, and 3 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Jennifer and all the wonderful caring ladies at Blessed Bridges. He will be missed as a real individual, always cracking jokes with his dry as a bone sense of humour and that great Harrison Ford crooked half grin. Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville (613- 968-2273). A service is planned for later this year with inurnment to take place at Belleville Cemetery. If desired, Memorial Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family.
