After complications from a fall at home, Barb died in Oshawa's Lakeridge Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Jenny Urbankiewicz and son, Andrew. Leaving behind daughters Denise and Susan (Geoff Pare) and son Paul (Thel); siblings Irene Lubowitz, Virginia Mair, Walter (Annmarie), Lester (Jane Kettles) and Ed (Cathy); and granddaughters Zoe and Alana Pare and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barb was born in Kawek, Poland coming to Canada with her family at age 10. Besides being the eldest, she was the first to leave the farm, marry, have kids and divorce. Not a trendsetter but certainly a risk taker with decided opinions that she later in life had no hesitancy in expressing. A wicked sense of humor, compassionate, curious, avid reader, PBS learner, Met opera follower, gregarious, classical music listener and casino player. Retirement brought the added wonder of travel with Denise to Vegas, Arizona, BC and the Atlantic provinces to view it all up close and personal. Through membership at the Seniors Centre she learned to crochet with Frankie, play the accordion (a long held dream) and kept fit with Aquafit.
Barb was grateful for the friendship she had through the years with all her wonderful neighbours. Sibling gatherings were a highlight as each retired and could join around the table. "I'll miss our sibling lunches. Sorry about that kids. We'll always have Lakeview."
In accordance with Barb's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held when it is safe to do so.
