6 NORSHORE SENTINEL Thursday, January 26, 1961 CAMERON FALLS CALLING by Marion Lake The annual general meeting of the school board and parents was held Wednesday night at the school. An (almost) record number of fourteen people attended -proof that interest in the school and education at any rate seems to be on the increase. Chairman Lloyd Bishop in his resume of the year’s activities reported that the board has invested in an insurance policy against any crippling injury or death suffered during regular school hours. Sewing lessons for the senior girls - grades seven and eight were started in Sept, and for the purpose two portable sewing machines were purchased. Classes are held every Wednesday afternoon and are supervised by Mrs. H. Burns. A number of major purchases were made this past year. Among them were a TV set and a radio, two sets of encyclopedia, a slide and a film projector plus film strips and some experiment equipment for science classes. The teachers’ room was furnished anew also. The school (proper) now has four fire exists. The entire school, was vacated in 35 seconds during the last fire drill - pretty fair - eh what? A discussion arose around the possible taking of class group pictures and it was decided to find out how many parents or students would be interested in them before further steps were taken. The members of our school board are L. Bishop, chair R. Cooper, secretary, R. Williams and 0. Zeigler. Our two junior hockey teams have been having a busy if not successful week. Last Saturday the Junior Rangers met the Red Rock junior team and lost 7 - 2. Goal scorers were Lennie Barrie and Jerry Jubinville. Then the Senior Rangers tackled the senior Red Rock team and came out on the bottom 8-4. Goal scorers were David Keown, Jimmy Ziegler and Winston Sequin who scored twice. This Saturday the four teams tangled again and our teams were again licked - but not as badly. Maybe next week the tide will be turned. The junior score was 5-1 for Red Rock and the senior score was 2-1 again for Red Rock. Goal scorer in the junior team was Jerry Jubinville and on the senior team Winston Sequin. The close score in the senior match was attributed to the excellent playing of the defencemen and the goal keeper. Lome Corlett, coach, would be pleased to hear from any other team in the district who would like to arrange a game with either the senior or junior teams. There will be no games next Saturday as curling fever strikes in Cameron for the entire weekend. During the games Saturday, our United Church W.A. served hot coffee in the rink shack - probably welcomed in the below zero weather! In their third game of the season, the Cameron Falls men’s team took on Dorion last Friday in Red Rock and walloped them 7-2. This team has been very modest about their triumphs and tragedies. Please, Mr. Manager - could we have some scores once in a while? And last week’s chapter in the life of our bowlers: In first place Mervin Ender’s team with 64 along with Penti Rintala’s team - with 64, 2nd, Tommy Boyle’s team with 60, 3rd, Anne Bylund’s team with 53, 4th, Pat Jones’ team with 50, 5th Andy Davidson’s team with 46, and sharing 6th place with an even 60 are Bea Keown’s and Joe Campbell’s teams. The high single and high triple women’s banner waver is still Bea Keown and Don Belair and Don Bagley still hold the men’s high singles and high triple crowns respectively.
