Slater, District Deputy of the Rebekah Lodge, attended the initiation held at Greenstone Rebekah Lodge in Fort William recently. A farewell party for Mrs. R. Skinner was held by members of St. Andrew’s United Church Choir in the church basement. The highlight of the evening was the slides shown by Mrs. J. Ridsdale. Lunch was served, followed by a singsong with Mrs. Skinner playing for the last time. She has been church organist for the past 2 1/2 years and will be greatly missed. A gift of corning ware was presented to her by the choir members. Those attending were: Mrs. H. McBride, Mr. and Mrs. A, Freed, Miss. B. McBride, Mrs. R. Hiller, Mrs. E. Johnson, Mrs. C. Morris, Mr. and Mrs. T. Whent, Mrs. D. Hepburn, Mr. and Mrs. R. Gander, Mrs. T. Olson, Mr. and Mrs. G. Fisher, Mr. McFarlane, Mrs. R. Crook, Mrs. J. Ridsdalei Mr. and Mrs. R. Skinner. Mrs. Skinner was also presented with a gift of corning ware by St. Andrew’s United Church Women’s Auxiliary. Miss Kathy Bolan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Bolan, is a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Port Arthur. Mr. Jack Hepburn, Mr. Les Duggan left Sunday to attend Radio School, in Ottawa, for the next seven weeks. The Schreiber High School Home and School Association met Monday in the High School. President Mrs. P. McParland presided for the meeting with 26 members present. The minutes and correspondence was read by! Mrs. H. Gellert. Mr. D. D’Amours, one of the local high school teachers was guest speaker, and gave a very interesting talk on the 'Capacity of Learning'. Plans and arrangements are being made for a Talent Show to be held some time in April. The Girls Auxiliary of St. John’s Anglican Church held their annual Christmas party in the church basement. The girls spent the evening playing games and exchanging gifts. Those attending were: B. Lidkea, D. Slater, M. Birch, C. Everitt, DISEASE INCREASE BRANDON, Man. (CP) -Experimental farm officials here say incidence of yellow dwarf disease in western Manitoba barley fields in increasing. The disease, caused by a virus transmitted from plant to plant by aphids, has not previously been a problem in the province. S. Harness, K.A. Paske, L. Inshaw, S. Jartus and Mrs. Inshaw. A delicious lunch was enjoyed by all. The Parent, Teachers Association of the Holy Angels School held their regular meeting in the school, Thurs. evening. The meeting opened with prayer led by Rev. J.M. Cano. President, Mr. J. Branchaud presided. Minutes and correspondence were read by secretary Mrs. R. Spadoni. Mrs. A. Needham read the treas. report. Plans were made to hold a tea, Jan. 28th in the Guild Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. Mrs. E. Cocks will convene. Questions from the Question Box were read by Rev. J.M. Cano and answers read by Mrs. E. Cocks. A lively discussion between parents and teachers followed. The meeting closed with Prayer. Lunch was served by Mrs. T. Gaudet and her committee. ------------ COMING EVENTS Social Evening in the Towr Hall, Feb. 1st, at 8:00 p.m. sponsored by the Easterr Star Chapter. Valentine Day Tea in St. Andrew’s United Churcl basement, Feb. 4th, from 3 tc 5 p.m., sponsored by the C.G.I.T. The P.T.A. of Holy Angels School will hold a Tea ir the Guild Hall, Jan. 28, from 3 to 3 p.m. The Catholic Women’s League will hold a card party in the town hall, Feb. 3.
