The pabulum too ... gradually gaining weight, gradually showing his curiosity about the world around him. He won’t meet many people - people can be dangerous to wild bears and he must grow up to know that. He will know Ben, and trust him -hopefully, he will have a companion bear here -who knows? (The telephone can ring at any time! - we expect that!) For walks outside on real grass, in real sunshine, he follows Ben as he would follow his mother. As he grows, Ben will take him out in the woods and the meadows, and the little cub will begin to learn about his world, exploring it all for himself. All summer he will eat and eat - from pabulum, to apples and fruit and kibble. By fall he will be much bigger, and live in a seven acre enclosure, deep in the woods, where he will have big trees to climb, caves, and a running stream of water. Winter will come and he will hibernate in one of those caves. . . until spring. Spring! By then he will be a good-sized creature. And he will be taken to a carefully chosen place, and he will have what he wants . . . freedom.
