It meets every month or when an issue comes up that concerns all four. This meeting took place in Nipigon and was chaired by Mayor Harvey, with 17 people present. NOSTA reps Bruce Fallen and Tim Lukinuk gave a presentation to start the meeting, outlining for everyone just what NOSTA is and what is can do for communities - as well as what communities can do for NOSTA. NOSTA is North of Superior Tourism Association and is classified as a REGIONAL tourist association, covering White River to English River and north past Armstrong, to the Albany River. NOSTA looks at being the association that promotes “working together” and “growing the economy”. Fallen showed the Ontario Tourist Map and the Circle Tour Guide produced by NOSTA, which are the 2 fund raisers. At present at much improved website is nearly ready to be launched and the NOSTA reps plan to meet with council and EDC members in every community in the NOSTA jurisdiction. Questions from the floor included the idea of a Pass Book for tourists who hit all NOSTA communities, to NOSTA’s involvement with the snowmobile trail from Dorion to the other side of Thunder Bay -which is in the process of being worked on as trails around the logging sites are being planned. Also discussed was the high cost of the snowmobile trail permit which too often doesn’t get to be used because of snow conditions or now because creeks and rivers on the trail system are not freezing over. There had been a request to have the taxes on the Doctor’s Clinic reduced or waived to help with a package of incentives to attract new doctors. This will now go back to the Recruitment meeting to see how crucial it is to have this done. Ed Chambers Photo Preparation for Nipigon’s Revitalization Plan For those who have seen the surveyors out in the community of Nipigon over the past 2 weeks, ENL Engineering, Thunder Bay is preparing an overall "snapshot" of Nipigon, from the CPR rail lines, along Front St, down to the Marina. This "snapshot" will go to Habib Consultants who are preparing designs for the Nipigon Revitalization. At approximate cost of $27,000 this information will locate all services such as gas and water lines and all the feeder lines; water shut offs, the height of the roads, curbs and sidewalks even the width of the streets. This information will be vital for any work done in this area. Glena Clearwater Photo
