Thursday, April 27, 1961 NORSHORE SENTINEL 5 NIPIGON NOTES OR. JEFFREY BECOMES FLYERS’ LIFE MEMBER by Lila McOuat Dr. A.H. Jeffrey was the unsuspecting guest of honor at the Nipigon Flyer Sportsman's Dinner Saturday evening, when he was made a life member of the club for his faithful years of service. He is the second life member, Red Winfield was made one a few years ago. Frank Zayette, club president, made the presentation of a white sports coat with the Flyers red crest on the pocket. It was a pity there wasn't a larger crowd present but it seems the secret was a little too well guarded. Ted Broughton did his usual fine job as M.C. and in his introduction of Dr. Jeffrey stated the Flyers have yet to receive a bill for the many broken bones and bruises he has mended. The Flyers Ladies Auxiliary are to be congratulated on the delicious supper they provided and the players wives are to be thanked for their part in serving and cleaning up following the dinner. “The Twiliters" from Schreiber who provided music for the dance are every bit as good as correspondent Nora McGuire said they were. These young fellows are to be watched and after their excellent performance Saturday I'm sure we'll be seeing them around Nipigon quite often. Mrs. Noel Camire thought the band great too. In fact it was only a few short hours after the dance that she presented her husband with a 6 lb. 5 oz. baby boy! Congratulations.... another Flyer we hope! This weekend the Nipigon Curling Club will hold their annual Spring Dance with the presentation of prizes. Attending the. Schreiber Curling Club windup dance over the weekend were Mark and Margaret Banning, who were guests of the Gino Caccamo's. Gino was the retiring president of the club. One little girl who is going to miss her grandma is Debbie Lajoie who, with her brother Donald and mom Elaine, have left to join daddy, Ray in Kapuskasing. Grandma, Jeanne Lajoie sews all of Debbie's clothes and we're sure she will be the best dressed young miss in her kindergarten class this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Lajoie Snr. drove their daughter-in-law and grandchildren to Kapuskasing this weekend. Visiting in Nipigon Sunday were George and Toini Lehto of Port Arthur. The Lehto's were guests of the Toivo Ruuska's. George of course was interested in the Sentinel's new equipment and gave many helpful pointers. Three year old son Geoff received his first phone call from a playmate, Kenny Assad, on Saturday and since then blithly calls out each time the phone rings, “Is it for me, mommy? New residents in town are Roy and Gladys Harper with their two small children. Roy is employed at Zechner's Hardware and is at the present looking for a house to rent. Any help would be appreciated. The Harpers are staying with their relatives Gerry and Helen Rhodes for the time being. It was such a pleasant sight to look in the window of the Chapel Florist last weekend at their opening and see the colorful array of plants and cut flowers. Surprising what a little paint can do to a building isn't it! They say pink is the color this year - just love that pink refrigerator! Norma Parent of White River is operating the shop for the Cochranes. Norma is living with her aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Bill Baker. It's for the Birds! Nipigon Lodge No. 337 of the B.P.O. Elks are again sponsoring a bird house contest. The contest is open to boys and girls between the ages of eight and 12. Prizes will be given to the three boys and girls building the best houses. The contest is under way nowand the judging will be held in the Elk's Hall on Monday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. so get busy kids and try to win one of these prizes. The Nipigon Flyers Ladies Auxiliary will hold their final meeting for the year on May 3 at the Nipigon Inn at 8:30 p.m. It will be the financial meeting so a good attendance is hoped for. Rev. and Mrs. A. Reimers returned from their two-week holiday in the East with their two sons, Mark and Eric. They visited with Shirley's parents and also many friends in the London area. Jim Taylor, formerly of Nipigon and now working at Cavel near Nakina spent the weekend with Clarence and Erna Joa. Jim and Clarence had good luck smelt fishing while he was in town. There is no Cameron Falls Calling column this week as correspondent Marian Lake was called to Toronto along with husband Jim to attend the funeral of Jim's uncle. Sympathies are extended to the Lakes. FRANK ZAYETTE, LEFT AND DR. JEFFREY CROOKS REXALL PHARMACY Port Arthur 2 S.
