SCHREIBER Wl NEW PRESIDENT IS MRS.WINTERS The Women's Institute met in the Town Hall, Tuesday afternoon with president Mrs. Kitty Whitton presiding. Minutes were read by Mrs. Nettie Thrower and the treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Beth Macadam. Two minutes silence was held in memory of Mrs. Singleton. A donation was made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Standing committee reports were given: public relations -Mrs. Nettie Thrower, agriculture in Canadian industries -‘Mrs. Beth Macadam, citizenship and education - Mrs. R. Bailey, home economics and health - Mrs. Mavis Slater. Each member was asked to bring a piece of used clothing to the May meeting and invite their mother or ‘a' mother to attend. Mrs. J.D. Bryson presided for the election of officers: President - Mrs. Robert Winters; 1st vice pres. - Mrs. J.Campbell;, 2nd vice pres. - Mrs. E. Mailette; secretary - Mrs. Nettie Thrower; treasurer - Mrs. Beth Macadam; district director - Mrs. N. S. Smith; tea hostess - Mrs. E. O'Connor; baby scales - Mrs. Betha Miller; friendship secretary - Mrs. W.J. Scott. 'Scott; auditors - Mrs. W. Clemens and Mrs. N. Linkewich; historical research - Mrs. N.S. Mrs. Martha Huller was welcomed back and Mrs. H. Scott was welcomed as a visitor. Supper was served by Mesdames J. Corbett, B. Miller, K. Whitton and V. Winters. BEARDMORE HOME AND SCHOOL HEARS TALK OH WILLS The APril meeting of the Beardmore Home and School Association held Monday, in the Canadian Legion Clubroom. The President, Mrs. S. Pleson, thanked all members who assisted at the sale on April 15, which was quite successful and also those who contributed so generously. The balance of the used clothing was sent to MacDiarmid. Proceeds of the sale will be used to send two delegates to the Home and School Conference in May at Quetico. Mrs. A. Dampier and Mrs. F. Motyl will be the delegates. It is also hoped that delegates may be sent to another conference June ,15 to June 18, for leadership for training. Mr. E.M. Jellett, Royal Trust Co., Port Arthur, addressed the group on the topic of “Wills",, explaining briefly why wills should be made. He explained that actually it was the duty of any person who had an estate or possessions, however small, to indicate what disposition was to be made of them. He emphasized that a will, to be legal in Ontario must be witnessed at the time of signing by two witnesses, whether it be a typewritten will or one in writing and that the signatures of the witnesses must be on the will. Mr. Jellett also briefly explained the probating of wills, circumstances that frequently caused delays in settling of the estates, problems to be faced by executors, what takes place when the deceased has made no will, and many other points of great interest to all. The address was followed by a question period when several questions on particular points were directed to Mr. Jellett. Mr. J.G. Poirier commended the Home and School for having brought Mr. Jellett to address the meeting on a topic of such wide interest to a community, and for inviting all other organizations and individuals to attend. He extended the thanks of all to Mr. Jellett. Lunch was served by Mrs. Wm. Hamden, Mrs. E. Baby, Mrs. A. Dampier Mrs. P. Tuomala, Mrs. N. Campbell and others. ST.HILARY’S HOLDS SUCCESSFUL TEA A successful tea and bake sale was held last Saturday by the St. Hilary's Parish Council. Mrs. V. Imhoff greeted the many guests who attended (despite inclement weather) in colorful spring attire. The’ tea table, arranged by Mrs. Art Kaufman, was decorated with a white lace cloth over blue undercloth. The centrepiece of golden daffodils was accented by blue candles in crystal holders. Pourine tea were Mesdames: R. Begin, W. Kirby, B. Lord and H. Tretiak. Servitois were Mesdames R. Fowler, J. Aubin, S. Cano, R. Plante, M. Guevremont and B. Roberts. Door prize, donated by Mrs. L. Grace, was won by Mrs. D. Clark. Thanks are extended to all those who worked in the kitchen, served in the hall, sold tickets at the door and helped in any way to make the event so successful. Rev. J. Ray Anderson officiated at the ceremony. The bride wore a blue suit with white accessories and a pink rosebud corsage. The bride was attended by Mrs. Vic Winters who wore a gray suit, pink accessories and a pink feathered carnation corsage. The groom was attended by Mr. Bob Turner. Following the ceremony a buffet lunch was held at the home of the’ bride, where the bride's mother received wearing a green suit and beige accessories with a yellow rosebud corsage. Mrs. F.V. Hiller presided over the tea tray. Serving were Mesdames Joy Riley, Freda Duggan and Bobbie Winters. Mrs. Jack Corbett made the wedding cake and was dining room hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan travelled to Sault Ste. Marie for their honeymoon. They will reside in Schreiber on their return where the groom is employed by the C.P.R. as an operator. fireman's fire WINDSOR, Que.
