Leon Michaud, icefishing with Alphonse Tardif and Joe Fournier at Watson Lake pulled in a 23 pound pike measuring 42 inches in length and 18 inches in girth Tuesday March 14. The little guests and their mothers enjoyed some home movies and were the stars in other movies taken during the party. The Legion Auxiliary had its regular meeting March 13. Two applications for membership were accepted. The new members are Mrs. P. Poirier and Mrs. C. McGee. Members moved to charge rental in the future for the use of kitchen facilities. A special meeting will be called later to discuss applications for membership received after the Membership social on March 17. At the same meeting a special Fish Derby Committee will be appointed to make any necessary arrangements in connection with the derby. It is hoped that ponies will be obtained for the amusement of the children during the derby. A good turnout was noted at the library on Wednesday. Any new Canadians who would like books in a language other than English can notify the librarian on duty and efforts will be made to get the books by the middle of April. Several German books are already on the shelves. Italian, Portuguese, and most other languages can be ordered. The Beardmore Art Club met for the last time this spring with Mrs. G.Cantley, instructor for the group. Mrs. Cantley gave a demonstration of port-trait sketching in charcoal. The group then did practice sketching from live models. Models for the evening were Mrs. P. Dean and Mrs. R. Schell. Following the meeting, the members met at the home of Mrs. R. Schell for a farewell party in honor of Mrs. W.D. Sainsbury. The president, Mrs. K. RECREATION LEADER VISITS BEARDMORE The Beardmore Recreation Committee met this month on Tuesday, March 14, instead of Monday so that members could meet Mr. I.B. McCauley, new representative of the Community Programmes Branch who was in Beardmore, Tuesday, on his first tour of the district. Mr. McCauley outlined the new portfolio system for recreation where one member of a recreation committee is responsible for one branch of recreation. This encourages not only each organization but each in- dividual whether a member of the recreation committee or not, to take an active, interest and work with the recreation committee. After looking over the plans for the new recreation centre, Mr. McCauley offered many helpful suggestions in the use of space and for the many fields of recreation involved. He suggested that young people are frequently more appreciative of recreation facilities offered when a charge, however small, is made as this encourages people to see the worth of such facilities. He expressed gratification at the extent and diversity of recreation offered in Beardmore. Arrangements will be made soon to have as many members of the Recreation Committee as possible attend the North Western Ontario Recreation Association Conference to be held in the Lakehead on April 14-15. A letter of appreciation was sent to the referees and coaches who were so faithful in their job at the skating rink with the various leagues. Mr. M. Faubert will remain on at the rink until later in the spring this year. JUDO ANYONE? MEETING MONDAY The manly art of judo-anyone interested? A number of Cameron Falls and Nipigon residents have shown interest in starting a club in this area and will hold a meeting Monday night at the Nipigon Inn starting at 8 p.m. Anyone, male or female, is welcome to attend.
