March 27, 1931 -- NEWMARKET LIONS CLUB RECEIVES THEIR CHARTER On March 27, 1931, the Newmarket Lions Club was formed at a bangquet and dance held in the IOOF Hall on Millard Avenue. The Newmarket Club was formed when the need for services was never greater. The world is in the height of the great depression and so the need for leadership and community service was evident. The Club was chartered with thirty--six members. John J. McCaffrey is the Club's first President. First Vice President -- Walter H. Eves, Second Vice President -- Kenneth N. Robertson, Secretary -- Robert L.
