92. | NEWMARKET VETERANS ASSOCIATION | 19 30 Since year 1930 the Veterans of Newmarket have been known as | "The Newmarket Veterans Association". Previously the Newmarket | Vets remained affiliated with the North York Veterans and by year 1936 there was in excess of fifty members in good standing. Mr. A. Elphinstone was the immediate Past President while Presidenat for 1936--37 was Alfred (Mickey) Smith, and the Vice President was Bob White. The erection of the War Memorisal on D'Arcy Street in 1935 is indicative | of the manner in which the Newmarket Club has carried on its work. In 1948 the Newmarket Veterans Association affiliated itself with the Canadian Corp of..Toronto and were known as Branch 119 of this organization. In the same year the local organization was responsible for the erection of the Cenotaph on a plot in the Newmarket Cemetery. The Veterans were determined to have a club they could call their own so the Association acquired the property at 406 Millard Avenue which was the previous location of the Free Methodist Church.,.
