Tom Kirk, Newmarket's Chief of Police. The photo was taken on Timothy Street West, just east of Lorne Avenue, on April 19, 1930. Hill. Sgt. Tom Kirk was a friend and a respected Chief of Police by residents of Newmarket and surrounding district. Many locals will remember the "Tom Kirk School Night" which was established in his memory and was organized by the Newmarket School boards. It was held annually in the Newmarket Memorial Arena and was the final play--off hockey night for the local school teams. The ice skating races for all school grades was a big favourite and was the highlight of "Tom Kirk Night" at the Newmarket Ice Palace. This special night has been recognized by the placing of a bronze plaque for all to see in the Arena, second floor west.
