Era NewmarketAurora Keswick On Wed December 1 by the way By LARRY ROBERTSON look at the players of note who have passed through ranks on their way to better things In my searching I have come up with seven to the ranks of the Ontario Hockey Association Junior A loop Jim Cowell a regular with the Ottawa e other six have taken scholarships at universities ted States Two have gone to Yale University Connecticut with another two attending North Eastern University in Boston The final two of the group are attend ing Kent State and Dartmouth Universities It must be remembered that although these players in universities as hockey players their scholar- are mainly academic must have good marks as well as the ability to chase the puck The players who has been across the border the is Roy Keys of Aurora Keys is presently in Ms tkird year at Yale taking a course in Political Science Keys obtained his scholarship not primarily on bis playing ability but for having the highest marks in grade 3 of any boy in Aurora MAY ESTER POLITICS Roy is not really interested in playing hockey later said Roy Keys St He is more interested in teach ing and possibly coaching in school With the possibility of going into politics later Another member of this group is Bob Kane of Newmarket also at Yale Bobs first year said Mrs Angelina Kane is sort of a general one and he hones later to study law Right now he is doing quite well down there The other two players who attend another univer sity are and Eugene Gene Both are at Bostons North Eastern University Since the boys were with the both fami lies have moved Archambeaus family left Newmarket and moved into Toronto where his father the late Ernie Archambeau became manager of a Royal Bank branch a position he held in Newmarket DETAILS SKETCHY As is usually the case when families begin to move about details of their whereabouts become sketchy and often contradictory About all I was able to garner was that he is presently in attendance at North Eastern on an academicsports scholarship The same is true of the Newmarkets Jim Wither- spoon and Auroras Paul Dixon WHherspoon presently Is studying at Kent State while Dixon is at Dartmouth Another Newmarket player although not a New market area resident is also at Dartmouth Dale Dunning a from Toronto was at one time the Redmen goalie when Roy Key and Ross Goddard were rebuilding the club after the Smoke Rings sputtered and died in the early sixties Its fanny how things cone about While I was talking to Roy Sr regarding his son Roy I suddenly realized that I was talking to the former Redmen organi ser manager and coach Keys stated that after running the club he moved to Aurora where he joined the Aurora Tigers hockey Elmer to king over Keys bad as his coach When I went to Aurora said Keys Forhan came with me and became the coach for the Tigers TWO IN AURORA Aurora for two years said Keys Newmarket Its interesting how things come to light to pro vide an insight into the background of an established organization such as the Newmarket I found it not too surprising that hockey players today are just as interested in getting an education as they were in previous days but now with the change in attitude toward athletics on the college scene the players able to further their education and still keep up their Torrid race in Tuesday mens action NEWMARKET Only two points separate
