appears to be the towns only election meeting of the year and over people turned out to listen and ask questions The Eagle Hills Community Association sponsored the meeting which was held in the gym nasium of Stuart Scott school and it invited the three mayoralty candidates and two contenders for the new town councils second regional seat to appear After each candidate was given time to introduce himself and make a statement chairman Mike the community association president put a single question to the group Do you favor building apartments between Eagle Hills subdivision and Fairy East Deputy Reeve Ray answering first said he didnt want to see highrise down there but qualified his answer by pointing out he needed to give the problem more study because he has been heavily occupied with East business during the past council term opponent for the towns second regional seat Tom Taylor felt the town should try to retain whatever natural beauty we have I think we should not put apartments crowded into the stifling hot town hall council chambers for the meeting Most candidates declared their intentions earlier Sparks flew only once that occurred when a quest ic from the back of the hall who s that didnt identify himself said he heard that Councillor Bob Forhan one of the three men nominated for mayor had resigned from council many times in anger Mr denied having re signed was contradicted by incum bent Mayor Tom who claimed the councillor had said he quit twice in closed committee meet ings and once in open council This drew a heated response from Mr who admitted he upset and threw his papers on the floor during arguments Highland Heights subdivision He said he became upset because he felt the subdivision agreement would cost tax payers between and 000 He eventually
