Gulfmen open 70 season May By George Haskell We sincerely hope the powers- thatbe at Queen Park realize if the East Gwillimbury building program doesnt receive the green light immediately boys could be out of hockey in the season ahead That is a lot of hockey players to be benched The East Gwillimbury Minor Hockey Association Is third largest in York County Those responsible for its growth from a fledgling start to its present size are to be congratulated Theyve had many problems particularly in finding ice time Theyve provided this hockey for the youth of their township and believe me as anyone who has served on hockey boards knows its a big job Now when the contract was signed for the arena what happens regional government Our citizen neighbors across Davis Drive voted in favor of an arena and they should have it It will be interesting to see if the ballot box talks The contract was let to Norm Burling Builders Everyone is raring to go once the Ontario Municipal Board says We sincerely hope their approval will be forthcoming this month EXCELLENT PLAN We think the committee has com with an arenarecreation hall plan that is as as we have ever seen They spent many hours looking over arenas in all parts of Ontario and have incorporated many of the best ideas from other arena setups in their plana The committee has purchased ten acres of land to the east of Sharon This they plan to develop into a park as well as an arena recreation Kick the Gong Around a second needed in this area It would seem since the arena question went to the voters and was approved it would not require the services of too many mathematical wizards to figure out how it can be paid for who is entitled to use it as home base Were hoping the committee as well as township fathers will make strong representati to Queens Park to have this project carried to a successful conclusion The Newmarket arena cannot handle this extra influx We would hope too that regardless of the outcome of regional government that the East as well as the Newmarket Minor Hockey Association will continue to function and in that way provide more hockey for more players Minor Hockey Association meetings head the class in exciting sessions and democratic principles CREATING INTEREST Seventy attended the Associations annual meeting recently There were a flock of nomina tions for each executive position
