F Editorials A parachute job YorkSimcoea Liberal candidate John Roberts is a young man hes 35 hes welleducated he holds a doctorate in political science from Oxford University and he has a responsible job as executive assistant to the minister of Forestry and Rural Development Mr Roberts is goodlooking married industrious and ambitious But he lacks some vital ingredients which will make him a suitable person to represent riding in the House of Commons He has no ties with riding either through family connections property or business At the recent Liberal nomination meeting Mr Roberts told the delegations that he had to date spent only days in the riding His candidacy in for the Liberal Party is what is termed in political circles as a parachute job Mr Roberta follows three terms of Liberal representation for the riding representation by that funny member John Addison Mr Addisons attendance in the House of Commons was among the worst of any MP in Canada Part of the reason for this poor attend ance was because Mr Addisons business interests were outside the riding There i3 therefore no reason to suspect that Mr Roberta who has no family ties property or business in YorkSimcoe will he any better a representative of the riding than his predecessor Mr Roberts is hoping to ride into office on the wash of Pecking Pierres PuttPutt His parachute job into riding smacks of the Liberal Party establishment cramming a candidate down the throats of Simcoes voters And his parachute job is not going to land well with these voters Still at it The huge telescope at Hank in the reported receiv ing signals from an object in outer space that is five billion light years to I distance in Light years is the term natron Light travels at the rate of 18G000 miles per second or miles in a year If you multiply that figure by five billion youll know how long that mysterious object has been in existence Much longer then the few million years earth has been in existence The astronomers at Jodrell Bank do not know the size of the object it must be huge or whether it is inhabited by higher forma of life But if it is inhabited by higher forms of life one wondera if these people are still fighting World Wars Vict Noma or each other just because some of them have different colored skin SUGAR SPICE By Bill Smiley dirty word How would you feel if the taker or the election because what she says about the children is not true I know as well as any other driver who has passed through East Gwillimbury Heights that children do play on the road A good driver knowing thia will re duce so that a sudden stop three times is not necessary or at least will not cause what made me smile is her implication that had it not been for her sons good driver qualities something might have happened and it would have been another teenagers fault Well I do not know how many teenage sons Mrs C E Thompson has but I know at least one of them by name It was only a few weeks ago on a Friday night on Davis Drive in Newmarket that I witnessed something her teenage son thought The game is to pull out in front of an oncoming car when is almost dark Of course you must pull back into your car lane again before you collide The clos er you come to a collision the more of a hero you are You also scare the people In the itself is great fun I would tike to predict Mrs Thompson that one of these days your son is going to kill a nice innocent family not just one kid It will certainly be said then that the accident was duo to the dang driving of a teenager the nth whether Please Mrs Thompson for your peace and mine when your son is driving a car would you keep him in your back yard and off the road Queen St Dear Editor This is to express our sincere appreciation of your efforts organization problems at his time and could not find he necessary to pur chase fireworks 1 would like to see a permanent committee set up to sponsor he fireworks display every year 1 am that Council or the Recrea tion Commission would encourage such a group and provide a grant to cover the difference between money spent and money collected by passing the hat through the crowd In attendance If any
