Friday of an infraction of a borough zoning bylaw may result in similar charges being laid against the organization in Newmarket and Drown Camps were fined on each of four charges of violating a Scarboro bylaw by operating commercial homes for treat ment of emotionally disturbed children in a singlefamily neighborhood The organizations lawyer said following the trial that no change will be made in Police Detain Man Following Threats NEW MARKET- Freezing rain and treacherous roads hampered police last Sunday evening as they searched for a man who said he Intended to kill his employer King Township police received a call from a distraught wife saying that her hus band had a gun and was on his way shoot his boss Police were warned that the man had also said he Mould kill any policeman who came near him but officers from Newmar ket Whitchurch Aurora Gwillimbury and King Township instigated an immediate search Road blocks were set up at strategic points and the suspect vehicle was spotted on the Green lane north of Newmarket by Constables Tom Young and Harry Diamond In pursuit of the vehicle the police cruiser skidded off the road on the Ice but neither of the officers were Injured Aurora police finally stopped the vehicle on Highway II at Aurora and the man was into custody without a struggle King Township police chief Leslie Pen- said that the man had been hospitalized for psychiatric treatment and that no charges would be laid the use of the Scarboro homes while Brown Camps is considering an appeal Browns Camps operate treatment centres similar to those operated in the homes in Newmarket and Kast residential areas The organization has two offices listed at Millard their ac counting department and a firm named Camp Leasing lid National Director grounds for further action against Brown Camps Mr Blight said the town has passed sev eral zoning bylaws over the years covering area but never got around to submit ting them the OMB Under The Municipal Act such town by laws do not become law until they receive approval In October Township Council presented a resolution to York County Council aimed at forcing the removal of Browns Camps operation there The County Council asked the province to study the Brown Camps operation and urged lic encing and inspection of homes for disturbed children but took no further action Reeve Garfield Wright said Monday Council has been following the case closely and will meet to assess the town ships position In light of the zoning convic tion Residents Protest Location Brown Camps Offices Council referred a let ter to the Town Solicitor from ratepay ers in the vicinity of Millard Ave and lorne Ave objecting to the occupation of residen tial property by employees of John Brown Camps Ltd The letter requested that council take action to slop the occupation of certain houses In this arm which the residents claim are being used for commercial pur poses The plea to council stated that the is urban renewal scheme for the downtown area based on proposals contained in their final report of a recentlycompleted urban re newal study So The was informed by a spokes man for firm Mr G Low The report is presently being studied by a liaison committee consisting of members of the planning branch of the Depl of Muni cipal Affairs provincial government repre sentatives members of the federal government representatives and reprosen- tativs of the Town The committee is to meet soon with the planners to discuss the report Thereafter the planners will begin in earnest to investigate how their proposals for the downtown can be practically imple mented bearing in mind particularly the towns ability to finance urban renewal Mr Low says The original proposals as well as cost estimates may be revised In the light of more detailed study according to Mr Low Drastic changes in the original conception are no likely however he says Urban Scheme Would Boost Tax Rates The high cost of re storing The float was destroyed in a fire which damaged warehouse on Davis Dr last week Most of the damage was caused by smoke but flames destroyed enough of the float so that only 60 could be realized from its sate to the Aurora Santa Clause Parade Committee Anyone wishing to make a donation to help pay for a new float can do so by drop ping it into the Royal Bank of Canada branch on Main Street The fire did not reach the storage part of the premises and no damage was caused to furniture in that section Insurance underwriters have not yet made a survey of building and Harry Legge operator of the business stated damage was minor except for the Santa Claus float which was in a separate area Three New Members On King School Board Three new members and Jack Vanluyk two incumbents were elected to
