jii Tfc Kra Oat Wed 1 fc I u 1 A NEWMAN As the month of November comes once more upon us those of us from a generation find our thoughts turning to a fateful day now almost fifty years ago the 11th hour of the day of the month the year Memories of raids by and of fathers uncles cousins returning for a brief leave from the muddy trenches of France and Flanders Such are the memories of the man who was but a boy then The very thought of war under any circumstances is hateful something to put out of our minds if such a thing Is possible How can this be done How best may we bring to remembrance the treasured memory of the loved ones who did not return Or perhaps there is someone who remains in hospital as a result of wounds suffered in that or more recent conflagrations It would appear that many man made efforts have failed to bring to us the peace which was so easily promised all those years ago Leagues of Nations United Nations Peace Conferences all have failed miserably to bring any real and lasting peace to the world to the nation or to the individual Mankind young as well as old remains confused for answers which constantly evade him Intellect reason all have been tried without success The old fashioned standards which modern man finds ridiculous still seem perfectly satisfactory to those who have teamed to live by them Those standards of personal integrity and compassion for our fellow man which are laid down in the Holy Scriptures provided with a personal faith In Christ all that our fathers required to find Life to be rich and rewarding That personal faith in a Risen was quite adequate as something with which to face the many daily problems which came their way Since all our own best efforts have failed so signally Is it too much to ask that we be willing to return to the Faith of our Fathers and find in a personal relation ship to the Lord Jesus Christ that peace of mind and heart which was one of the reasons for our fathers being willing to die so that way of Life might be preserved I am not suggesting that every soldier was a practicing Christian but obviously the way of life which was enjoyed in their day was one which was eminently satisfactory It was one for which they were willing to pay the supreme sacrifice rather than see it disappear Should we not then be willing to accept our share of the responsibility and do our very best to bring that kind of worth while living back within the reach of all Our Lord reminded His hearers not to be too concerned about the material things of the world but to Seek first the Kingdom of God Matt When we begin to allow Jesus Christ His proper place He brings His own brand of peace to our hearts and lives Eph 214 states He is our peace Perhaps this may mean a complete reassessment of life and its values Yet Gods word assures us that such NEWMARKET NOTES What People Are Doing by Ruby Haskett Mrs Stanley Janes of Mary and Nellie Park Avenue celebrates divided the children her birthday on Octo-
