triumphs giv ing the opposition the shutout treatment on five occasions Pegg received the best pitcher award and Argna Camera Trophy in post game ceremonies at the fairgrounds Oct Elmer Mattice making the pre sentation Ken Sturgeon was voted most valuable player in the showdown series Teaches received the Bill Hodgson Trophy presented by the donor OASA President Clare Butler was on hand to present the St Catharines Standard Trophy pennant and crests to each arid every member of the winning Argus team Team captain Bill Forhan accepted the trophy sponsor Argus executive Elmer accepted the pennant It will make a fine addition to the front office at the Argus Camera plant President Butler congratulated the team spon sor Elmer coach Bill Collier and manager Lou Boutilier At the same time President Butler took tinieout to give a word of encouragement to the gallant Hearst Lumber Kings and their coach- manager Aide Collin FIRST IN HISTORY Hub history was made on this warm but over cast the fairgrounds Never before had a Newmarket softball team won an Ontario title on their own diamond Last year the team under the sponsorship of Plaza Tires won the series crown in games played at Hearst This was a memorable day for the local faithful- Theyll long remember it It calls for con gratulations to every member of the team These players who have seen action on many ball fields many who have starred in other sports banded to gether to give it an all out effort They have brought honor to our community and to our neigh bors in East Gwillimbury Township The team is loaded with many outstanding players but even more important it is made up of a group of dedicated players who have learned to work together as a unit to achieve the victory they desired Bill Collier Lou and Elmer were willing to devote the time and energy required to keep the Argus team in action They spent many hours in leading and directing this team that won both the Senior League and the OASA intermediate title The cooperation between the Hub and East GwiHimburyAWEfa excellent as Mayor Drew Reeve Garfield Deputy Reeve Gladys Roll ing and Deputy Reeve Clare Salisbury were present Saturday to give the final series a send off VICTORY PARADE We sincerely trust that our Hearst visitora enjoyed their stay in our banana belt and will carry kind thoughts back north of their visit here Certainly they should remember their parade aboard the firetruck along with their victorious Newmarket Argus brethren It was a nice gesture to include the Kings in the victory parade George district convenor and
